Smith seems like a good guy. I'd gladly vote for him over Obama.

i think a smith/pawlenty ticket (or vice versa) would be damn near unbeatable.

Smith getting the nomination is unlikely and if Bayh was to be the Dem nominee (a little less unlikely), it would be close.

I'll tell you this much, ol Gordo wouldnt even carry his home state.

Well, that's great but that doesn't mean a landslide. It's like saying, "Old Johnny Edwards wouldn't even carry his home state." in a General against John McCain meaning a McCain landslide.

Against Gordon Smith? I would be shocked if he didn't.

Why would you be surprised that over hyped Obama wouldn't win so easily? Do you not understand that just two years ago this man was still in the Illinois State Senate? Do you really think he'll ever have an easy time winning the Presidency?

Against Gordon Smith? A boring fellow with a bad hair peice who has now enraged his own party? If he was against him..yes, I think he would have a pretty easy time.

Oh, I can't wait until everything comes out about Obama. His star is going to come crashing down. It'll be hilarious.

Everything is already out there. He smoked pot and snorted cocaine in high school. That is really the only dirt on him and it's been out since 1995.

It's been out since 1995 and how many people have cared since then? Wait until things like that and his not that centrist record becomes more well known nationally.

Why don't you give us some of the details if there is so much dirt on him?

Well, you won't find it to be dirt but the whole drug situation and his very liberal record (I believe I heard that he was rated in the top five of most "progressive" Senators) will show people that he is not this moderate, perfect guy. The fact that he has no real accomplishments hurts, too.

Damn... Smith lost his own state. That is weak.

Do you think Gore is a strong candidate?

Err...After George W. Bush, I don't think the average american cares about coke use.

Let's face it - our smear machine is going to go to work on it much stronger that they did. It will all mix in with the idea that will float around about Obama being too inexperienced and such.

You can also go after him for being black, you know.

Oh wow! It took that long for you to bring up that I'm trying to make race an issue!  Roll Eyes

It'll be hilarious that Obama will fail to succeed in this race (if he even gets in) but we'll just have to wait and see.

You scoffed at the idea of "overrated" Obama winning by 25-30 points. He won by 43. Keep it up, Phil, and you're going to be unpleasantly surprised come Election Day.

Wow. I suggest that you not get too cocky over this, Rob. Winning an Illinois Senate race against some clown - huge accomplishment. Barack Obama has never won a tough race.

Remember this, Rob:

Bobby Rush - 60%
Barack Obama - 31%

You're going to be unpleasantly surprised come 2008.

The point, Phil, is that you've already underestimated him once, and badly. Yes, he had the good luck of running against Alan Keyes. But he outperformed beyond your wildest expectations; you should keep that in mind. You won't, though.

I underestimated him in a race where he was going to destroy his opponent. Big deal. He "outperformed beyond my wildest expectations." Oh wow. That has quite a ring to it! Way to make it seem like Obama scored some amazing upset or scored some real electoral accomplishment.

Obama will be in the big leagues now so I suggest that you quit being so arrogant. You won't though. Wait until he gets owned in the primaries or roughed up in the General.

I agree and I want you to know that I hope Obama gets in the race and that's not just because of what I stated earlier. He is exciting. We do need more charisma in these campaigns.

No longer so certain that Hillary will thrash him in the primaries? Tongue

Oh, she'll beat him but part of me holds out hope that he wins so the GOP can be the ones that bring the rising star back down to Earth.  Wink

May I remind all of those so sure of an Obama win in the primaries that Howard Dean was seen as your "once in a lifetime," real deal candidate this time three years ago.

It takes mighty big men to bump bad predictions with hindsight! I am so very flattered that I am hated by two of the biggest douchebags here. Really, it's an honor.

Yeah, but Rob isn't a douche and he totally dominated you on this thread....

Roll Eyes

Ok, great. He's an ok guy but he could be a douche at times. I expected better from you, of all people, than to hear the "OMG you got bitched up, son."

Cop to an incorrect call, congratulate the correct predictor, and move on to debate another item with no hard feelings.

I've done so several times. I don't need a lecture about congratulating the correct predictors/winners (not saying that you're trying to do that though). What does it lead to? More immature people bumping old threads in a malicious fashion and making it into a bash session.

Explain your hard on for me. I'm being serious, too. You want to constantly get on my case? Hey, at this point, more power to you, pal. I just want to know what it is about me that draws you in. And make it something good, too. I don't want some lame "You're easy to target!" nonsense. I'm sure you have something better in your arsenal. Ouch. Inappropriate word usage? You know, considering your explosive background?

Here's an example of a wrong prediction I made regarding Dole's senate seat:

Her race to lose. She probably won't, though.

Here's the kind of prediction you post:

You think McCain is going to win Pennsylvania. You have no room to talk about hackish posts.

LOL

PA = At the very most, a lean or likely Obama state.

TX = Safe McCain state

It doesn't compare, child. Go to bed. Mommy and Daddy won't like you sneaking onto the Internets four hours past your bedtime.

In the end, Texas was about a point more GOP than PA was Dem. Anyhow, you invite people to make fun of your predictions when you're all uppity about them in the first place.

So....you give one example of your prediction and one example of mine. I'm sure you've never been cocky about a prediction especially when talking to a hack troll. For whatever reason, Iosif has been on my case since he got here. You're not even as bad as he has been.

At the same time that I make those cocky predictions, I'm one of the first people to admit when I'm wrong and send my best to the winners. I'm not looking to be showered with praise for that; I would simply like people to remember that before they go batshit on me.

I'm confused - why would I take offence to the use of the word arsenal?

Hahaha. Excellent.

I see.

I think I'll be having a word with Dave.

Awww, what's wrong? Can't take a dose of your own medicine? I love it when people get on my case for being a "crybaby" and then they go run to Dave after they get attacked. I've never complain about Dave to you but I have plenty to report if you want to play that game.

Or we can be mature, stop the constant attacks/harassment and debate things here like adults. The ball's in your court, pal. You let me know.

Show me an example of me being "cocky" on a political prediction. It's really not my style.  Admitting your wrong does not exempt you from being made fun of. If you act all haughty and then get proven wrong, people are going to make fun of you. That's just how the world is. Try some humility for a change.

Try some humility? Dude, you need to get over yourself. You have a serious problem with me and decided to get nasty with me in the "Opinion of Phil" thread. It's clear that you have a bias.

To think that I've been cocky about all of my predictions is assinine and many would have agreed with my PA/TX rating that you cited. I wasn't cocky about saying Santorum would win. But you have some good excuse for getting on my case for that, right? "It was so stupid that we have to make fun of you!" It all goes back to your problems with and your desire to get every bit of satisfaction out of a win. Winning isn't enough. You need to rub it in the losing side's face. Of course admitting when I'm wrong isn't enough. Then you wouldn't have anything to complain about. Now we have Iosif (someone that everyone can admit just loves obsessesing over me in particular) getting on my case for grammar and spelling. Give me a break, guys.

Ditto for claiming PA would be remotely competitive in the recent presidential election.

Right but you didn't go after anyone else that said the polling was off and that it would be much closer.  Roll Eyes

And, again, you ignore the truth. I wasn't pompous about my Santorum prediction and many others laughed off the idea of TX being closer than PA this year. It's people like yourself that continue to act pompous, citing my "horrible record" at predictions when, in reality, that's the worst myth on the forum. I've only ever had two really bad predictions but the people that personally dislike me love to harp on them.

The only reason I said anything in the opinion of Keystone Phil thread is all the taunting and accusation of cowardice from the FF side. I would have much rather not said anything at all.

That's too rich. You would have loved to keep your mouth shut but you were forced to personally attack me. I feel your pain, my friend. I hope you got over that hurtful experience.

You've got something lodged way too far up your ass when it comes to your feelings about me and I'd rather you either a) keep it to yourself or b) talk to me personally about it. I'm tired of getting this lecture about me just wanting to play the victim when I actually want to civilly converse about the race and whatever other topics. I'm tired of this "Gotcha!" nonsense. I'm tired of the bumping of the old threads and attacking people personally. There are quite a few bad predictions from the other side that are just as infamous as mine. I went at it with a few people and they were wrong about some other races. I let it go though. All I ask is that you do the same.
