Unless he's found to have been legally insane at the time of his crime and/or mentally incompetent, I think he will be sentenced to death, If any crime is going to merit the death penalty, premeditated multiple murder certainly should.

I think it is rather simplistic to equate evil with mental illness. Evil is a disease of the soul rather than of the mind.
