With all the problems they've had the last few decades, being the head of the American Red Cross is a negative for any resume, not even considering the way Dole let politics influence some of her decisions while she was head of the ARC. There is no way I would ever give them money to squander thanks to the consistent mismanagement they have displayed. Other organizations do the same work better and the only reason the ARC is able to fund raise is the goodwill the brand name built up in earlier decades combined with the fact that they place a priority on PR over public service.
That said, I wouldn't attribute the decline of the ARC to Dole, but rather the decline of the ARC was one of the factors that led to them considering Dole to be their head.
