What is "The Bell Curve?" Its a name I hear thrown around a lot but never have bothered to look up.
1990s scientific racism. Minorities and other poors are poor because they have low IQs.

?

Why is this here?

Presumably because Gustaf feels that's an unfair characterization of the book.

But that is the argument of the book. Quite openly.

Haha, ok, there were too many steps to get to the original thread so I misread the situation. From the post by Sanchez I assumed that it was in reference to the concept of the bell curve and not the specific use of it for IQ and race. I think that application of it is a lot more known in some circles - 95% of the time I hear bell curve it's just what it is.

So, sorry...I retract the original posting. Tongue

I only glanced quickly but didn't realize I was looking at European PMs in that picture (thought they might be US Southerners for some reason).

So, even someone who does know the faces of some of those politicians wouldn't necessarily get it...

By 'the material' he means 'opebo's posts on the forum'.

...this case appears to be one of slow accumulation.

Will BRTD eventually be banned under the "slow accumulation" paradigm? Say by election day, 2016? Maybe one stupid poll that Inks/Joe Republic/Gustaf doesn't like that puts him over the edge?

I'm actually a bit worried about that, despite only one death point.

Me? I'm not much of a ban-pusher.

You aren't in a position to evaluate that statement. I can't recall a single time that I initiated a ban thread on the mod board, though I could be wrong. I'm not much of a fighter against bans either, but I never claimed that.

I agree with the majority, above average filmmaker, well below average human.  I don't really care about the marrying his "step daughter" (he was never a father figure to the girl), but there is a lot, A LOT, of rumor that he's done Polanski levels of crimes without the hard evidence to get a conviction.
And hundreds of other Hollywood figures. Its the darkest industry in America (sorry Wall Street haters its true).

I wouldn't call the financial sector an industry, given that it produces nothing.

Oh lord, he wants to ban even more people now! Roll Eyes

He should start with himself.  Gully's admiration for Sartre's work is especially interesting, since Sartre and his life partner very likely abused young (and probably underaged) girls.  She was rumored to go after the younggins for her own use and pimp them off to Sartre when she was done with them.

I thought what a person did in their private life was the only thing to be considered, yet we'll overlook this old chap's indiscretions because he was a brilliant writer.

ag really gets unhinged when talking about the Latin American left:

Why would the fascists need to start an uprising in Venezuela? They have been in power for the last 15 years. Against whom would they be rebelling?

Venezuela has clearly been a democracy for the past 15 years except for a couple days of fascist dictatorship in 2002. Chavez's attempts to amend the constitution to extend his own power were rejected and he fully accepted the results.

Venezuela does still retain certain democratic institutions - despite the severe damage done to them by the fascist regime over the last 15 years. But I do not think this is going to stay there for long. Chavez, it should be granted to him, was charismatic and loved winning in an actually contested race. True, he stacked the system heavily in his favor - but let the (heavily disadvantaged) opposition compete (within limits): he thought it was fun. Maduro will not be winning elections in the future, and he knows it. So, frankly, I do not think we will have many more elections in Venezuela under this regime.

In any case, ideologically they are run-of-the-mill fascists, Mussolini copycats. Which, of course, makes them the darlings of the ultra-right-wingers, like you.

Classic Lief - can't offer a single post in actually countering what was said in the thread and instead just posts it to point fingers in here. This is exactly why all these mines and institutes are stupid, it detracts from actual discussion.

It's always entertaining to see people act condescendingly towards those who are much smarter than themselves though.
