I am announcing my candidacy for Speaker of the Chamber of Delegates. As ex-Speaker, I have done the job before.

I intend to continue on as Leinad has previously - by emailing all the delegates for upcoming votes and ensuring a good balance in bills introduced.

I also plan to keep moving forward to making the South Great again. Smiley

Be there, or be square.

You'll have 48 hours after 9pm tomorrow to nominate Speaker candidates and 72 hours thereafter to vote for speaker.

Yes, deputy speaker nominations and the election will be up as well per Diptheriadan's legislation. I'll run them both together as that seems to be dip's intent.

Governor also has the obligation to nominate a candidate for attorney general, and for Southern Election Secretary.

I am now opening up the floor to nominations for both positions:

Speaker

and

Deputy Speaker of the South.

Per the laws of the south, the only requirement for speaker is that they have the confidence of the chamber and they are a registered southern citizen.

In order for the nomination to be accepted - please post your username and the position you are seeking.

You have 48 hours from 9 CST March 19th. Nominations will expire after that date.

It is not possible to nominate two people to the position of deputy speaker. You'll have to choose one, diptheriadan.

Speakership is decided by the delegates, not the Governor. We've gotten away from Governors appointing the Speakers for quite some time now.

I see nothing in the Chamber rules that permit the Governor to break a tie in this fashion.

I don't think it could be broken. Deadlocked bills die on the order paper or get tabled.

We have no consensus. Cuber's ballot is invalid as it was edited more than 10 minutes after it was cast.

Since we don't have any precedents of a tie vote for Speakership here in the South, I am going to appoint a commission of three members to sort this out.

I am appointing Leinad, Spiral and Peebs to the new

'Electoral Commission for the South'.

Actually, you lose as fhtagn's vote is also invalid.

Diptheriadan is now Speaker of the South.

Indeed. I PMed you as soon as I saw it because your vote was invalid as it had more than one ballot on it.

Uh, it's a good rule that you cannot edit your ballots *after* they are cast, after a specific period.

In any case, 5+ hours for fhtagn's edit is a bit much.

I'm happy to appoint the commission to adjudicate this, as I think it's important to settle this.

What do you think JustinTimeCuber?

Do you think that's a fair way to do this?

You're more than welcome to take your dispute up with Justice JBrase.

This election is closed.

I'm going to accept Cuber's ballot.

The official results are:

Diptheriadan:

Ben Kenobi, CelticEmpire

JustinTimeCuber:

JustinTimeCuber, Jacobin American

Invalidated:

fhtagn

I'm not ok with accepting ballots edited five hours after they were cast. I don't care if it was CelticEmpire, me or fhtagn.

Uh, Cuber's already taken it up with Justice Brase. I'm pretty sure the Governor has to abide by the process.

I'm more than happy to abide by whatever Justice Brase decides. Are you?

This is actually Peebs' job, fwiw.

And again - she's not a Federalist. She agrees with me that fhtagn's ballot ought to be invalidated. 5 hours is a long time to edit your ballot.

So there we have it. You've already taken it up with Justice Brase as is your right. I'll happily comply with whatever ruling he delivers.

Peebs, in your expert opinion, when you run an election it's 15 minutes that is the norm?

This was all going to Brase anyways...

Why are you so afraid of his ruling?

Indeed I do. Speaker Diptheriadan was vacating his position as Speaker and appointed me to the position.

Are you suggesting that I can now appoint Diptheriadan to the Speakership as he did me?
