Lichfield, Fazeley

Con 53.0 (-1.1)
Lab 47.0 (+1.1)

Pretty marginal for Lichvegas, then again it was always much more Labour than its reputation would show, it's only built up suc a great Tory majority at Westminster due to Fabricant being the hardworking, charming chap he is.

3 cases of a UKIP spoiler effect there.  Ouch.

Watching UKIP fail to win any by-election is so, so refreshing.

They fail to win most local by-elections so I'm not sure how it counts as "refreshing". What's notable is that they have fallen back notably in the two Lincolnshire contests, presumably because there were more convincing local alternatives available.

All the 'kippers on my Twitter feed were hyping their chances, hence their loss is made even sweeter.

Nowt like the smell of frustrated uninformed populism to wake one up in the morning.
