Is there "if I have to be drafted, can I apply for an commission?" program? Serious question. Because in that case I'd sign up for the Navy, else probably the Air Force.

I'd want to join the navy. Not only because I enjoy being on the water, but because it's the safest branch to join when the people we seem to have the most conflict with are in some middle eastern desert.

So you want to join the branch that had to go find and kill Osama bin Laden (who was nowhere near water)?

I doubt they'd be putting draftees on SEAL Team 6.

Heck, if this didn't work and if my number was bad enough, I'd probably apply to Officer Candidate School anyway to get one step ahead. It would depend, I guess, on how people were treating members of the military in what I assume would be a time of crisis- if service was being looked on with befuddlement and disdain or understood in the context of events. I wouldn't want to lose too many opportunities if it was the former, but if that wasn't the case I could see myself applying voluntarily.

Army, I guess? With my plans for grad school, I'd be a good fit for military intelligence depending on when I got drafted.

See, I suppose nowadays it'd be different with so many people going to college, but I feel like there'd be other routes for a degree holder than just being drafted.

lol simfan you'd be hazed out of the officer's core in approximately five second. you've made 3-4 paragraph long posts about proper attire in formal settings...

Well, would it be any better with the enlisted men? Indeed, I dare say what you mention is part of the appeal!

I would not mind marching around, actually, but it's the manual of arms that would worry me, with my rather wanting level of hand-eye coordination.

Eww ... Either I'm too old or too young for this forum.

Fun fact: The first gay soldier who made money out of the repeal of DADT was an Airman:
