Bourassa has the highest proportion of people of Haitian origin of any federal riding in Canada:

  • Bourassa: 12.6%
  • Saint-Léonard - Saint-Michel: 9.6%
  • Honoré-Mercier: 7.9%
  • Alfred-Pellan: 5.2%

The Liberals may not be cheering M. Laraque's entry into the race.  Areas of Liberal strength match fairly closely to areas with the highest proportion of Haitians:

There is a fracas in the Scarborough-Guildwood NDP, with suggestions that the party may have installed Giambrone over the will of the local members, and the defeated local candidate Chhabra threatening legal action:

They better hurry because nominations close at 2pm today.

Thanks, Krago. Not my colour key though Wink - and I don't have permission to use your maps on my blog.

Anyways, I just realized that in Toronto Centre, both councillors are NDPers. Even the north ward, which covers Rosedale. (Albeit, the 2010 race in that ward was an open seat, and the councillor who won only received 29%).

Go right ahead and post the map if you wish (and my colours are better!)

From Wikipedia:  She [Kristyn Wong-Tam] also noted that she did not renew her New Democratic Party membership, saying: "I think all (council) rookies are saying the same thing - they don't want to be pigeon-holed."

Scarborough-Guildwood was the only one of the five ridings that used exactly the same poll numbers as in 2011.  I'm waiting for the by-election poll maps from Elections Ontario.

However tokenly, I doubt the Tories will be reduced to single digits in TC; nor will the Libs be quite *that* high in Rosedale.  But it'll depend on *how* well the NDP does relative to the Grits re them winning more polls (and of course, what'd help is an assist from the Tories winning polls in Rosedale)

2011 Federal Election

Rosedale/Moore Park (17%)
LIB 46%, CONS 39%, NDP 11%, GRN 4%

Rest of Toronto Centre (83%)
LIB 40%, NDP 34%, CONS 19%, GRN 5%

If you think Montreal is confusing, try Kitchener.

  • At the Waterloo-Kitchener municipal boundary, Westmount Rd South, King St South, and Weber St South, turn into Westmount Rd West, King St West, and Weber St West respectively.
  • Combined, the K-W area has a King St North, South, East and West.
  • Erb St West and East in Waterloo runs parallel to Victoria St South and North in Kitchener.
  • In Kitchener, Victoria St South runs parallel to Highland Rd West.  Highland Rd West makes a 90-degree turn to the south and becomes Highland Rd East.
  • Highland Rd West intersects Westmount Rd West.

The Windsor and District Labour Council endorsed Laurie Komon.  Tom Wilson was an NDP supporter back in the eighties, but I don't know his current affiliation.
