The original Stars and Bars is a far better flag... it is a great shame that as with the swastika (originally a Tibetan Budist and Hindu symbol) a symbol that did stand for something completely different is now synonymous with bigotry and hatred...

That said I would say that the stars and bars is not quite a popularly reviled as the swastika... but as anything other than a state's flag no... and the best symbol of southern independent is the original starts and bars... show bellow...

It looks nicer and is free from the inaccurate connotations that a few "yahoos" (to quote Shelby Foote) have lead many to associate the latter version of the flag with...

Actually isn’t that symbol that is suggested (the shield with the stars and bars and then a map of the south) the symbol for the fringe “Southern National Party”?

It is the symbol for some radical group, but we can highjack it. And yes the genuine Confederate flag is nicer than the stars and bars, but I am not opposed to using either of them

I don’t think you should use the flag directly but perhaps if you include the eleven stars of the eleven confederate states as a more subtle reference to the south, that might be an effective thing to do… perhaps in a red ring which encircles a GOP elephant symbol or perhaps a less partisan symbol like the American eagle seal or lady liberty or something of that nature… a circular device with a ring containing the 11 stars sounds good to me though.

I agree with Ben. Oh, and Ben you are welcome to join us if you wish!

I appreciate the offer but as a staunch Democrat I could never do so Smiley

But I look forward to civil and enlightening debate with you and your new party. But a Democrat I am and a Democrat I shale remain. That said if the present Dem platform is endorsed by the Convention, I have said I will reject it and that may forced me to join another party at lest for the period of this election Wink but I doubt that I would fit into the southern republican party, I’m too populist really, but stranger things have happened so its no impossible Smiley

What is your platform?

It might be an idea Smiley That said I will await developments at the Democratic convention and the D-1 election (where I've been campaigning for Boss Tweed) until i look into jioning another Atlas Party...

That said I would be most likley to jion the UAC... but a populist party would be a good idea and if viable I'd most certianly jion it... but as I said i'm not yet ready to make such a move.

I doubt i will... however events are moving in a direction which is leading me to at least consider either joining another party or working to establish a new party... but as i have said I am only considering it Smiley
