Some brief explanations:

Tennessee - has some of the most stringent right-to-work laws in the Union, and, alone among the Southern States, is unlikely to have a white working class strong enough to respond to Bryan's populist appeal.

Illinois - extremely closely divided, to the point it really could go either way, depending on if Bryan alienates the black vote or not. I think the odds are he'd probably come across as too much a rural bumpkin for them, though.

Texas and New Mexico - man, racial voting would be awful to see in these two States. It would almost-but-not-quite be the opposite of how it is today in them.
