Are the Republicans really considering the President who said, and I quote: "If the President does it, that means it is not illegal"? I don't care if he's less paranoid, I still wouldn't vote for him for dog catcher.

Also, he bombed Laos and Cambodia.

If Dems are willing to nominate LBJ, I don't see why not. I hate Nixon as a President, personally, but honestly.

Are you saying that LBJ is as bad as Nixon?

Are you aware that George Smathers is known all over Washington as a shameless extrovert? Not only that, but this man is reliably reported to practice nepotism with his sister-in-law, he has a brother who is a known homo sapiens, and he has a sister who was once a thespian in wicked New York. Worst of all, it is an established fact that Mr. Smathers, before his marriage, habitually practiced celibacy.

Yeah, let's not have Smathers.

In all seriousness, though, he did oppose civil rights. He signed the Southern Manifesto, though what with the performance of Unpledged Electors in '64 I doubt many people would care

Runoff time! I assume it's Kennedy v. McCarthy v. McGovern and Romney v. Goldwater v. Nixon.

'68 was just a crazy year wasn't it Wink

Ah, yes, I remember that shining moment when Eternal President McGovern rose from the ashes of the Democratic National Convention. Truly a glorious day.

To be swatted down in the general? Tongue

No. That's why I referred to him as Eternal President McGovern. Unless, of course, he beats incumbent President Romney (just saying that reminds me of the Dark Times in 2012) in 1972.

I just realized that I accidentally forgot to include Reagan. No wonder he was performing so badly!

Surprise

You just want Goldwater because it'll get McGovern more votes Tongue  I'd prefer Romney Tongue

So? I'm going with the will of 40% of the Republican party. It's just a coincidence that Goldwater's more abhorrent to the general election.

The fact that it's a tie means there isn't a general will.  Even more so if it's less than a half.  You're pretty quick on the trigger to attribute general will in general (woo tongue twister.. well, almost x.x)
