One thing that strikes me about the 1948 platforms is that Henry Wallace's Progressive Party platform called for immediate US recognition of Israel, while the Christian Nationalist Party (which would run Gen. Douglas MacArthur in 1952) opposed it. The Dems and Reps took more nuanced positions, if I recall.
