Both Michigan and Minnesota were pipe dreams for Bush IMO.   Minnesota was only so close last time due to Nader and it remains a fairly liberal state.  Michigan needs for more demographic changes for a Republican like Bush to win.  Detroit and other industrial cities provide the Democratic candidate with too much of a cushion and Repubs can never find enough votes in the rural areas.
