This amendment will turn the bill into something it was never meant to be. Now, I'll hold off on declaring my full support for the bill as is because I'm not too sure on the costs, but I like the idea of incentiving the purchase of fuel efficient cars. I'd rather use a carrot than a stick when it comes to making Atlasia greener.

Is a $500 rebate really necessary for a bicycle? Maybe the bike prices have jumped since I last bought one, but I feel like my bike might have cost me $300 max. I admit it's not really a racing bike or anything, but it gets the job done if I'm just wanting to bike across town. I'm not really a fan of covering the full price of a bicyle (and, in some cases, giving the buyers a profit).

One thing you guys might be missing is that there aren't a lot of cars out there on the roads that get less than 17mpg in the case of sedans and 14mpg in the case of SUV's and trucks. Especially the sedans. I suspect most get a higher mileage than that.

That's why the $8 billion price tag is too high. It needs to be one, two max.
I would think that might be enough, but I didn't want to change it too drastically. Also I would still like my original question about where the money is coming from answered.

It would probably just eat into the surplus. That's the case with most of the stuff we pass, as I think we're still going off of President Polnut's budget (?).

I could be wrong though.

I was the last President to sign a budget.

Ah, okay. Was it Polnut's presented budget that got carried over into your term and you ended up signing it? That's the only reason I can think of for why I would've thought it was his... otherwise I'm just totally screwed up. Tongue

I'd suggest cutting the bike rebate to something like $75 or $100, removing the moped rebate completely, and putting the car rebate at a value around $3,500.

I could give some thoughtful explanation, but I really don't have one. Tongue

Agreed on reducing the bike rebate, not on removing the moped one.

Fair enough, but it should be in a category separate from bikes.

Nay

Just doing some rough math in my head, I'm seeing that this program could cost a lot of money, and I don't think there's enough pay-off for it to be worth it. Despite the president's veto, the mood in Atlasia is obviously one in favour of modest tax cuts. If that's going to be the case, we just can't be spending all this money. Sorry.

Marokai, thanks for calling me out. I missed the cap on funds and the eight year limit. You're right to be disappointed in me for not being around lately, but I haven't really had a say in the matter. I apologize for not abstaining when I probably should've... it's obvious I didn't have the time or the resources to read things all the way through. I wanted to do something more productive than just abstain, but it blew up in my face. Tongue
