If teachers unions had done more to effectively teach students, the achievement gap which plagues African-American communities would not be as significant a problem.
Well, that's complete lunacy.
On the other hand, while I don't think it's the chief problem, I do think there's some truth in the idea that there will be disproportionate violence against a group of people that has disproportionately higher contact with the police. Does that erase the significant undertones of racism that often underpin this relationship? No. But I do think there's more than one problem that needs to be addressed, and throwing all law enforcement under the bus because of the small percentage of bad apples doesn't do much for anyone.
