Regrettable. The media will be on this for days and try to hold it up as the equivalent of Romney's 47% gaffe, even though in all honesty her assessment is over-generous to the Trumpists. They all belong in the basket of deplorables as apologists for his hatred and bigotry.

I mean, is there a possibility this was a premeditated thing to test the waters and see what happens when she herself embraces some of Trump's media tactics?

In other words, could this be good for her? The media will be playing the comment over and over for a few days (meaning they won't be playing e-mail sh-t on repeat), and almost all of her existing supporters will actually agree with her. Plus, it's a pretty meme-able statement that could appeal to young voters who hate Trump but are skeptical of Clinton.

I'm going to remain optimistic; she obviously made the comments knowing they'd be propagated, and she explains herself quite well in the context of the statement. It'll be interesting to see how this plays.

I will add that I've scrolled through the comments on many of the articles reporting this story, and they are a lot more sympathetic to Clinton than you'd think. Her statement almost seems to have fired people up... like they're happy she's punching back.

Hillary is really, really dumb if she thinks that just because 50 percent of Trump's coalition is one of these things, that this amounts to an aggregate of 50 percent of Trump supporters overall.

There's going to be a big backlash over this. I mean, I'm not a Trump support, but I'm one of those Conservatives that don't make a ton of money now, and would like to make more money in the future. That Hillary, who came from without money is now where she is, condemning those folks who are also climbing the ladder comes off as crass.

As for tossing opposition to homosexuality in there - does Hillary really want to consolidate all the Catholic support behind Trump? That, right there would cost her the election.

It may surprise you to know that not all Catholics are bigoted filth, but the fact that you assume they are is certainly telling.

Honestly, Hillary's media strategy has been great since Labour Day. New plane, press conferences all the time, solid digs on Trump, controlling the message... I like it. And I think the timing of it has been very deliberate. It puts wind in her sails for the debates and could help her dominate the news cycle on her terms virtually through to the last debate.
