So, any guesses on the next Supreme Court justice?

Obama should nominate himself

The thing is, there really isn't much room to the right of Scalia when it comes to literatlist interpretation of the constitution. Even appointing Ted Cruz to succeed him wouldn't change much from how the court operates now, unless I've misjudged Scalia's position within the court.

Scalia is a bit more nuanced than you give him credit for, but not much.  I think the most noteworthy time he broke with conservative orthodoxy was on flag burning.

any nominee would have to go through the senate judiciary comittee, which is filled with nuts on the GOP side:

Chuck Grassley, Iowa, Chair
Orrin Hatch, Utah
Jeff Sessions, Alabama
Lindsey Graham, South Carolina
John Cornyn, Texas
Mike Lee, Utah
Ted Cruz, Texas
Jeff Flake, Arizona
David Vitter, Louisiana
David Perdue, Georgia
Thom Tillis, North Carolina

To be fair a random sampling of GOP Senators would probably be just as nutty.
