I've been appointed to replace Hash until the next election. Two questions:

Why do we need a coat of arms?

Isn't there some representative symbol of the Southerner idiosyncrasy different from the Confederate flag? Will a flag like that be acceptable for those who are not white and Anglo-Saxon?

The current flag is indeed awful. The Confederate flag is iconic, no doubt about it, but it's an icon with too many negative connotations. Also, it's a bit weird that rhomboid shape inscribed in a shield, isn't it? I'm just checking state flags and I must say most of them are uninspiring. Georgia have had different flags across its History. Between 1956 and 2001 2/3 of the surface was occupied by the Confederate Battle Flag. That's what I call a declaration of principles. Anyway, the coat of arms looks nice. The Tennessee flag has an interesting design:

However, New Mexico has the best flag by far:

I'd like to find something as iconic as the Zia Sun symbol in the center of the flag above, but it's not easy.

Do you like the Volgograd Oblast flag? The woman with the sword reproduces a colossal statue ("The Memory Calls") in the war memorial that commemorates the Stalingrad battle. Doesn't she resemble a bit the Statue of Liberty?

Aye.

Two new proposals I whipped up.  These include the cotton symbol.

I guess the cotton symbol is fine. Besides, it has resemblances with the controversial "cottonfield operation" Grin. In fact, I like the idea of a cottonfield and a star constellation -not the Southern Cross, for obvious geographical reasons.

I would reject the rhomboid shape and -if you'll pardon a suggestion- would make smaller the cotton symbol and the stars. Which software are you using to draw your flags? Also, which is the motive of the choice of the colors? Aesthetically, a blue bottom would work better or, perhaps, another shade of green. We could try some variations of the design.

My apologies, I forgot to vote to choose one of the five flags. I see it won the 'Brazilian' option. It's fine Wink

Aye on the amendment. In case of public doesn't like the flag, I guess we should try harder...
