I'd prefer Ed Rendell to most of the people that they're actually thinking about (Especially Quinn).

New York seems all but guaranteed to have a pretty terrible mayor for a while.

They already have.

In huge news, Jimmy McMillan will be running as the Rent Is Too Damn High candidate.

I hereby endorse Jimmy McMillan. He's the most serious candidate of the bunch Tongue

I think Bill Thompson is the big winner of all this.

Who are the independents/republicans running?

Who is this guy John katsimatides that keeps putting radio ads out. I cant drive to work without hearing 1 every friggin day.

He's the Bloombergite Republican who's spending some of his billion dollar fortune to buy the Pubbie nomination. He already won the Liberal Party nomination.

woooooow. New Frontrunner. Will this mean that De Blasio peaked just a little too early and it turns out Thompson comes up?

Can someone rank DiBlasio, Weiner, Thompson, and Quinn on a spectrum from most liberal to most centrist/moderate? Feel free to include Liu if you know enough about his ideology to do so.

All I know about Liu is he wants to legalize marijuana, and he has some campaign finance issues.

Let me guess: Weiner is going to fight for the middle class?

...

And those struggling to make it?

What a predictable douche he is.

Joe Lhota is the only candidate who would prefer kittens being run over to delayed subway trains so far, for the record.

Good for him. We're talking about a city where millions of people rely on public transportation to get around every day. The alternative is routinely stranding thousands of people for long periods of time (in the case of the kitten-herding incident earlier this week, at least ninety minutes). This isn't a decision that the mayor would make, but it's disappointing to see that only one candidate would put keeping the city functioning ahead of pandering.

That's why Joe Lhota is the only man who can be mayor of New York city Wink

Is the winner of the Democratic primary basically guaranteed the mayorship?

There have been no general election polls since a certain point, but that's probably accurate.

NBC 4 New York/Wall Street Journal/Marist Poll
De Blasio (D) 65%
Lhota (R) 22%
Carrion (I) 3%
Undecided 9%

Likely voters; MoE +/- 3.9%

Jesus this is bad.

Sad Sad Sad

Hope the Lhota camp can somehow turn this around, and some momentous event where Lhota or some other Republican saves the day occurs.

I wish Lhota had a shot, but it looks like De Blasio would win even if he had a sext affair with Anthony Weiner.

This is one reason why I'm kind of okay with a De Blasio win: Bitter Bloomberg.
