There's quite a difference between one person making a decision to not vote for Clinton in the ballot box on their own - Quite frankly in a state like Washington I don't care if he writes in Bernie Sanders or whatever his choice might be. But he's going to be sent to the electoral college - he should respect what the voters of his state says or resign.

More proof the electoral college is garbage.

If we don't allow electors to vote their conscience, then there is no point to the electoral college - every other argument for it has an obvious counterargument.

there is no point to the electoral college.

^ Then tell me, why is no one in congress trying to abolish it?

because there are few if any in congress who give a damn want regular voters want. plus it's in general not an especially high priority thing compared to other things (because electoral reform is generally not cared about until near election day). Abandoning the electoral college requires a long time campaign and a lot lot lot of money because that's all that congress will listen to.

I think those should be obvious.

Besides, Republicans will oppose it as long as they get to wave a flag above their heads and pretend to care about the constitution (where any change to the electoral college would obviously come from a constitutional amendment).

there is no point to the electoral college.

It gives small states outsize influence on the process of electing the President, and gives populous  swing states greatly outsize influence.

You may disagree with the results, but it absolutely has an effect.

I think you misread my post - I'm not saying no point as in the electoral college has no effect. I meant no point as in there is no concrete reason for there to be an electoral college in the year of our lord 2016.
