The Liberals to me seem to be left of centre. Although if there ever was a NPD-Liberal merger a significant number of blue Liberals would bolt the party for the Conservatives.

They seem to be economically moderate and socially progressive.

I hate to concern troll here, but this seems like terrible news for the NDP and the chances of getting Harper out of office. The NDP got it's Orange Wave in Quebec because of the appeal to the soft nationalist but progressive voters. The BQ with Duceppe back in power is going to have a lot of appeal to those voters compared to the current clown in charge of the party now.

Although, the BQ did get wiped out with Duceppe in charge in 2011, so it could happen again.

Does anybody know how the two Barrie ridings would vote with these numbers? We have been stuck  with a pretty popular Conservative incumbent named Patrick Brown since 2006. He ended up running and winning the provincial PC nomination so he will not be running this year.

Barrie has also picked up a second seat in redistricting due to the fast growth rate of the city. I wonder if the NDP has any chance at either of the two seats ? Barrie does lean a bit to the right I would imagine, it is a overwhelmingly white suburban soccer mom type of city.

The Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte riding is friendlier to the Liberals than the old riding of Barrie was, since it takes out the southern part of the city which is full conservative-leaning bedroom communities. This is a case of a rurban riding that would give the Liberals and NDP a better chance than a purely urban riding.

The south side of Barrie still went Liberal provincially. It is only slightly more Conservative than the rest of the city.

Yea, the Liberals did manage to win provincially in Barrie by 4 points.

Do you guys think the NDP is still tainted in ON by the stench of Bob Rae ? I am way too young to remember him as premier, but have read a lot about the 'Rae Day's' and the difficult economic times and austerity of his time in office. A lot of people 45 + would certainly remember him, and probably not too well. It could cut into the NDP's claims of competence when in office.

Lawrence Martin refers to NDP as a a party of "blue collar grunts" and says they need a candidate with Bay St. credentials.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-debate/team-ndp-has-a-big-hole-to-fill/article25327652/

BTW no study I've seen says that being a manual worker actually increases one's likelihood of voting NDP.

Aren't unions big supporters of the NDP ? Right wingers always bitch about how union thugs run NDP policy and dictate their demands to hardworking tax payers. Big union towns like Oshawa, Hamilton, Windsor etc all vote NDP.

The other wing of the NDP is the champagne socialist types who are wealthy and highly educated like in Toronto.

I have a tough time believing that is true. Probably a smear campaign.
