Technically, Michigan is open primary, so you can't register by party.  But this is obviously hypothetical (since Michigan wasn't even a state until 1837), so here goes:

1787-1815: Federalist
1815-1824: Unaffiliated
1824-1833: National Republican
1833-1854: Whig
1854-present: Republican

Factions
1833-1854: Conscience Whig
1854-1877: Radical Republican
1877-1884: Half-Breed
1884-1984: Moderate/Traditional Republican
1984-present: Neoconservative Republican

1789-1804: Federalist
1804-1820: Independent
1820-1828: Democratic-Republican
1828-1833: National Republican
1833-1854: Whig
1854-present: Republican

Factions
1824-1828: Pro-Adams
1833-1854: Conscience Whig
1854-1877: Radical Republican
1877-1900: Half Breed Republican
1900-1980: Moderate Republican
1980-present: Neoconservative Republican

I'm probably one of the few people here who would always be a Democrat Republican.
