I did not follow the New York race that much, but I wondered about Cuomo's weak result in the election. He lost more than eight percentage points compared to 2010; which was, of course, not a Democratic friendly year (in contrast, Jerry Brown, Governor of another deep blue state, gained six points).

Why performed did Cuomo perform that weak in this race? I doubt that Rob Astorino is the reason for this. In some polls during spring and summer, Cuomo stood at 65-70%. What happened with him? Did the primary challange cost him so much support? I still regret, that David Paterson was not able to be reelected in 2010.

Anti-union Cuomo had a strong left-wing opponent in his primary: Zephyr Teachout, who received 1/3 of the vote.
Her supporters came in droves to the booths in order to vote for the Green candidate, Howie Hawkins, in the general election.
