Joe Biden to enter the Presidential Race!

July 1st: Delaware Senator Joe Biden, a former Presidential candidate in 1988, announced that he will try to win the Presidency a second time. It remains to be seen whether he can become a strong challenger this time, but at least he got a warm and enthusiastic response from the crowd and the reporters. Senator Biden spoke to the crowd and he later answered questions with his three top advisers: His sister, Valerie Owens, his campaign manager, Ted Kaufman, and John Martilla, his strategist.

Excerpts from the announcement speech:

"George Bush and the Republicans speak of victory, of triumph, of a new America. It's true, this country won a victory in Iraq, and everybody speaks about it. But it seems that we often forget that the concerns of the President are more domestic than foreign policy, and the President is the one guy who has forgotten about that the most.

America looks strong thanks to Iraq, but at what price? Our economy seems stable, but then again, at what cost? We have regained the faith in our country that many lost after Watergate, and I'm going to ask again: What is the price we paid for that? In 1988 I spoke against "seft interest" and the fact that the only real legacy of President Reagan was the question: "What's in it for me?". After four more years of President Bush, more and more idealism has been lost. Emotions are useless for the Republicans, and now the end justifies the means.

But I think it is not too late for a change. We can regain all the things we have lost in these 12 years of GOP control, and in doing so we will create a stronger America, an America which cares. George Bush won't inspire you, and he won't really lead you, because he doesn't have a true reason to stay in the White House. He cares only about looking pragmatic and passionless, and the things he had achieved in these years will not remain forever.

Perhaps the President does not care about this, but I do. I care! I want to be in the White House because I want a different America, and because I'm willing to work to achieve that. No matter the effort, no matter the cost, I want to return America the ideals it lost. So I am going to ask for your support, since I can't do it only by myself. As long as there are people interested in regaining what Reagan and Bush took away from us, this campaign will have strength, and there won't we any withdrawals now. I failed to convey my message in 1988, but that won't happen a second time!

Ladies and Gentlemen, our journey has begun, let us get aboard the Biden Express*!"

Joe Biden's Schedule: From October 23 to October 30, 1991:

Where is Senator Biden?

Manchester, New Hampshire: Reports seem to indice that the Senator was away from the campaign trail during the recent days, but Senator Biden himself returned to a rally in New Hampshire, announcing that he spent those days working on a more polished platform, that he will be unveiling on a week tour of the state.

This is an excerpt from his speech:

"Folks, you hear all the time that George Bush is ready. That he knows what he wants, and how he wants to achieve it. But my question to you is, does he have a plan? Have you ever heard the President saying that he thought about our policies and that he is following his pledges. I mean, we are talking about the man who broke promises to his own base.

So I want to create a clear contrast between the President, who acts only late, and my own campaign, that has spent the last days working on a detail platform that offers America the solutions it needs. Some of my staffers call it: "The Biden Express" (Laughter) But no, seriously, my plan seeks to lead us to the new era that is coming before us."

October 23:
-Rally and Speech in Manchester, NH, about the Biden Plan.
-Opening of new campaign offices on the state.

October 24:
-Town Hall on Laconia, NH.
-Town Hall on Keene, NH.
-Barnstorm Rochester, NH.

"Listen, we have a serious problem going on with the environment right now, but the special interests often ignore what's really happening, and they simply decide to ignore it and put the issue to rest. As President, I will fight for our national resources, as I have been doing on the Senate!"

October 25:
-Bus Tour on Manchester, NH.
-Bus Tour on Concord, NH.
-Bus Tour on Nashua, NH.

"This government has neglected agriculture. We like to think that big business and industries make America, but we often forget about farmers, who often have to struggle to keep their families going. That has to stop, and we have to give incentives to agricultural production unless we want to destroy the rural world."

October 26:
-Town Hall on Portsmouth, NH.
-Town Hall on Dover, NH.
-Barnstorm Derry, NH.

"Violence has a long history on this country. Still, the most shameful violence is the one that we see every day, and that we ignore: Women. Several women throughout this country are being abused, assaulted and beaten by their husbands, and we sit still and do nothing. That has to change, and we need to start protecting them will real laws that prevent this."

October 27:
-Barnstorm Manchester, NH.
-Holding rallies on Manchester, NH.

"New Hampshire: I need you. I say this in a very honest way, since this campaign has to compete against several juggernauts. We can win this, I know we can win this, but we need your help if we truly want to make a great impact on this race. I know many folks that are uninterested on politics, that believe that all of us are corrupt. Nothing far from the truth, there are decent politicians out there, politicians willing to fight for what's right! Help me on this journey, New Hampshire!"

October 28:
-Barnstorm Nashua, NH.
-Barnstorm Concord, NH.

"Many people out there still believe that Bush has already won this election. Are you kidding me? I know what the polls say, but whenever I travel around this country I find people tired of twelve years of republican hegemony. Besides, Bush is not as great as a candidate like people like Lee Atwater wanted us to believe. And if he wasn't the candidate, who do we have left? Quayle? Paul? Buchanan? David Duke? Gimme a break."

October 29:
-Barnstorm and Rally on Wilmington, DE.
-Fundraiser on Dover, DE.

"It feels so good to be campaign on my home state, a place that I love dearly. And since some voters have asked me, yes, I sure as hell miss the Amtrak. Trains are a safe, clean and convenient way to go where you want, and I will push forward for a greater amount of those kinds of solutions to our transport issues!"

October 30:
-Barnstorm Columbia, SC.
-Barnstorm Charleston, SC.
-Town Hall on Rock Hill, SC.

New Campaign Ad: "The voice of a new generation"Sad (New Hampshire):

Voiceover: Our nation is welcoming the real beginning of the next century, and the challenges that America has to meet have to be discussed right now. Only the new generation can lead our country through these times to create a new America, just like John Kennedy wanted us to do in the 1960's. Joe Biden has been a senator for over twenty years, but he has always been a voice for innovation and youth. He can lead the new generation by becoming his voice, and he knows he can do it. In a few more months, get out and vote for him, and help Senator Biden to become that voice.

Biden Crusader: Ted Kaufman:

"Americans want a government that works, and that's a fact. They want a better government, a not smaller one. And trust me, we won't achieve that by vilifying those who choose to work in public service. Look, I have been working for Senator Biden during the past twenty years, and the man's compromise to his work is admirable. I'm proud to work for him, and that's why I want to go around spreading his ideas across the country."

October 23-27: Bus Tour on Maine, visiting South Portland, Auburn, Biddleford, Sanford, Brunswick and Augusta.
October 28: Town Halls in Scarbourough and Westbrook, Maine.
October 29-30: Barnstorming Portland and Lewiston, Maine.

October 31:
-Barnstorming Manchester, NH.
-Rallies in Manchester about "Reaganomics" and "Vodoo Economics".
-Town Hall in Armherst, NH.
-Town Hall in Atkinson, NH.

"You can see the rest of the candidates spending the whole time visiting the big cities of the states. But it seems that nobody wants to go to the smaller towns. I can't imagine why. Here we can find the real stories, the real issues, the real problems. Towns like Atkinson, that have to suffer the consecuences of the failed Bush policies. Look, Mr. President, I think many people here can congratulate you for some parts of your foreign policy, but several folks are upset about your economic polices... Or your lack of them."

-Rally in Dover, NH, with speech about abortion.

November 2:
-Barnstorm Laconia, NH.
-Barnstorm Lebanon, NH.
-Town Hall in Hollis, NH.
-Town Hall in Hudson, NH.

"It is not working, and you know it. It is not working and you know it! We have to change the way America is going right now, because it will lead us to more and more trouble. Genuine progressive policies, a careful foreign policy and true concern for domestic affairs, that's what America needs right now!"

November 3:
-Visiting the city of Manchester:
  • Speaking with local people
  • Greeting supporters and potential voters
  • Give small speeches to college students

November 4:
-Town Hall in Litchfield, NH.
-Town Hall in Millford, NH.
-Barnstorm Merrimack, NH.
-Rally in Goffstown, NH.

"Many people in this race believe that I cannot win. You are at the end of the polls, Senator! They said. You wanna know what I think? I think that this race can still change by a lot, that all options are viable, and that our campaign can give a stunning upset if we have enough hope and we work hard enough. And those are the things that every single American does every single day."

November 5:
-Town Hall in Plaistow, NH.
-Town Hall in Pinardville, NH.
-Barnstorm Somersworth, NH.

November 6:
-Strategy meetings at campaign headquartes in Delaware.

And it's not pretty. But I remain optimistic on one point: They said that we, the Democrats, did not stood a chance against the GOP this time. But they were wrong, our party will triumph the next year! 1992 is the year we make our comeback!"

The New Hampshire Tour, Part I:

"I ask you once again to join me, this time in an even more arduous and improbable quest than my previous campaign, for you are my friends and New Hampshire feels like my home. Now, I believe it is the obligation of this generation to care for and protect the future of our children, as much as our mothers and fathers cared for and protected us. Look, for 200 years, the chronicle of our journey as a people and the legacy of the American idea has been the proposition that every generation of Americans passes on to its heirs a greater America, a better life, expanded opportunity and enhanced freedom. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s our moment of obligation and opportunity!

Biden Campaign Statement:

We agree with the Brown campaign's proposal: The voters would be able to see things more clearly and get a more accurate view of the candidates with a debate. Senator Biden's in!

OOC: I agree with Jayhawker: "To tell you the truth, I was thinking about dropping out and endorsing Al in early October. But I kept going. Hillary's accident was the last straw, and it showed me that my time was later. My duty was to my family."

Right, so the guy will just leave his wife in a hospital to start campaigning everywhere. Way to go, Bill!

Scott, could you give us one more day for this turn? This is getting really confusing and unless I understand who's in and who's out I prefer not to post a schedule. (Still, I don't want this to die, and perhaps we should let other players join if needed)

OOC: Well, we still have Kerrey, Harkin, Gore, Brown and Biden. Seeing that Bush is vulnerable right now, I think it would be realistic for candidates like Lloyd Bentsen, Douglas Wilder or Mario Cuomo to enter the stage, should any new players wish to join (and that would solve our problems so far, unless we skip this phase and we jump to January).

On another note, and considering that Bayh left and that we want to give more energy to the game, can we have New Hampshire polls, a national map and a debate next turn?

November 14:

-Bus Tour in Belmont, NH.

"You will be seeing me around for a while, New Hampshire. I want to get to know the state during this tour, and these past days have taught me a great deal about what is going on right now. And let me tell you what: I don't see a Morning in America, as a Republican would say. I see people starting to lose their jobs, I see business closing down, and I see folks in pain. And that only increases my desire to get to the White House to solve those problems."

November 15:

"Am I ready to debate? You can bet on it! I won't get cocky like in 1988, but I'm quite confident of my chances while making the cause for our campaign. I'm not running on populism, as several candidates are. I'm running on bold, specific ideas that come across a part of a bigger message, a message that I feel. The message of a new America."

November 18:
-Bus Tour and Town Hall in Barrington, NH.

-Bus Tour in Milford, NH.

November 19:
-Bus Tour and Town Hall in Litchfield, NH.
-Bus Tour in Hampstead, NH.
-Bus Tour and Town Hall in Weare, NH.

"Sure, we don't have the big endorsements, or the money, perhaps not even a big organization that can engulf the whole country. But we have the spirit and the message, and that is all that really counts in politics. I'm used to be the underdog: I was the underdog in my first Senate campaign, and everybody thought that I was going to lose in a humiliating way. But guess what, I won!"

November 20:
-Bus Tour and Barnstorm in Berlin, NH.
-Bus Tour in Durham, NH.
-Bus Tour and Town Hall in Exeter, NH.

I'm with Superique and Spiral, and I believe that the December turn should last 72 hours so we have the time to prepare such massive schedules. We did the same in Spamage's 2008 Game, and it worked just fine.

New Hampshire is a real disappointment, but the Iowa, Nevada and South Dakota polls are looking great so far, and with new endorsers helping the campaign I can say: Bidenmentum is still here!

Joe Biden's Schedule: From January 2 to January 9, 1992:

Iowa Tour:

"Good morning, Iowa! I haven't spent as much time as I wanted to in this state, but I have come to correct my mistake. For the following two weeks, I will be making a bus tour on this state, along with my good friends Frank Lautenberg and Ernst Hollings, two great Senators! Let's get down to business!"

January 2: (With Lautenberg and Hollings)
-Opening an Iowa Campaign Headquarters in Des Moines, IA.
-Holding Rallies in Des Moines, IA.
-Fundraiser in Des Moines, IA.

January 3: (With Lautenberg and Hollings)
-Tour to schools and colleges in Des Moines, IA.
-Barnstorming Des Moines, IA.
-Hiring volunteers, staffers and manning the phones in Des Moines, IA.

"Look, several people have brought already the subject of my talk... Biden's a loose cannon, Biden can't keep his mouth shut, Biden is going to cause a disaster... And the people who say that most often are republicans. Look, I'm no Lloyd Bentsen, but at least I'm not Dan Quayle! I'm a loose cannon, but I tell it like it is!"

January 4: (With Lautenberg and Hollings)
-Bus Tour in Davenport, IA.
-Rallies in Davenport, IA.
-Bus Tour in Ankeny, IA.
-Bus Tour in Urbandale, IA.

"Let's do it the right way this time, shall we? As Neil Kinnock clearly and originally said: (Laughter from the crowd) Why is it that Joe Biden or Neil Kinnock are the firsts in their families ever to go to a university? Is it because our fathers and mothers were not bright? Is it because I'm the first Biden or a Kinnock in a thousand generations to get a college and a graduate degree that I was smarter than the rest? No, it is because of the problems that we face in educations. That is also happening in Great Britain, and the economical policies that Ronald Reagan, George Bush and Margaret Thatcher tried to implement only make it worse."

January 5: (With Lautenberg and Hollings)
-Bus Tour in Clinton, IA.
-Town Hall in Ottumwa, IA.
-Bus Tour in Burlington, IA.
-Bus Tour in Dodge, IA.

"I am glad that our party has been able to discuss many important issues during this primary season. Six months of discussions, of debate, of conversations that will help us get our message across the United States. Some of the candidates are more establishment, some of them not. But it worries me a little when populism gets the best of some. Let's be realistic, I want change, you want change, and change can be achieved. But only if we are realistic about it."

January 6: (With Lautenberg and Hollings)
-Bus Tour in Waterloo, IA.
-Rallies in Waterloo, IA.
-Bus Tour in Clive, IA.
-Bus Tour in Waukee, IA.

January 7: (With Lautenberg and Hollings)
-Bus Tour in Council Bluffs, IA.
-Town Hall in Council Bluffs, IA.
-Bus Tour in Marion, IA.
-Bus Tour in Indianola, IA.

Hollings: "Remember me, Iowa? I ran eight years ago advocating a series of policies to counter what Ronald Reagan was doing in 1984. I didn't won, but I was proud of my campaign and of the message that some people decided to believe in. And I'll tell you this: Joe Biden is ready to be President, and he's is the best choice to deliver the message for 1992!"

January 8: (With Lautenberg and Hollings)
-Bus Tour in Ames, IA.
-Rallies in Dubuque, IA.
-Bus Tour in Newton, IA.
-Bus Tour in Boone, IA.

Lautenberg: "I have worked with this man for about twenty years. Senator Biden can make a lot of noise sometimes, and sometimes he might drive a few people crazy... (Laughs) But he has what it takes. He believes in his ideals, he fights for his proposals, and does what he thinks is right. Americans can trust him to stand up and defend them anytime."

January 9: (With Lautenberg and Hollings)
-Bus Tour in Ames, IA.
-Town Hall in Ames, IA.
-Bus Tour in Perry, IA.
-Bus Tour in Carroll, IA.

OOC: This race is just getting more and more exciting, even with the Democratic field cut in half. I want to request Iowa and New Hampshire polls and/or a National Polling Map so we can get a clearer picture, is that possible?
