I have to apologize for the delay on my behalf, but I have been running short on time lately and I will be travelling for a few days to attend my father's wedding, which means I won't be able to post a schedule until Sunday night.

OOC: Working on the update, I will post this small speech in the meantime.

Vice-President Quayle "encouraged" by latest polls, he is confident of his chances:

"Well, I honestly feel touched and quite encouraged by the latest polls. There were many people in 1998 that thought that I would be an electoral disaster, but look at us now. A majority of Americans are behind this massive effort, and we are making progress to create a broad coalition. People mock conservatives for being old fashioned, but the truth is that conservatism can appeal to most Americans in a very direct way, and Senator Daschle's proposed policies keep proving my point. Americans don't want a War on Coal, and those who want Bike Lanes will probably agree with me when I say that we have more urgent priorities. Take for example Senator Lincoln's speech on foreign policy, she speaks of a massive success . Should I mention Haiti, Bosnia and Rhodesia? Perhaps China? And what about the Middle East? The Clinton administration has botched foreign policy, Senator, which is why General Powell and me want to restore confidence and efficiency in foreign policy.

What we see right now in this stage of race is a team that is giving a 100% to win, and a team that remains on damage control. Senator Lincoln has defended herself very well, and she has also admitted some of Bill Clinton's mistakes, but right now we see the Democrats supporting the President's policies without regard for personal conduct, and that tends to me harmful. Specially after seeing Vice-President Gore joking about the First Lady, or the Monica Lewinsky rally, or Senator Lincoln's pessimistic comments on her own campaign... What I offer for America is a concrete plan, personal integrity in the White House, a more comprehensive approach to the people and my assurance that we are ready. The people see our team as much more Presidential and Vice-Presidential, and a majority of Americans call for Senator Lincoln's replacement on the ticket. I made mistakes back in 1988, sure, but my comments never backfired that much."

Dan Quayle's Schedule:
(September 22nd - September 28th) Sad

"Sure, some of our conservatives might feel a little bit surprised at some of my latest proposals, but they know deep down that Dan Quayle is no liberal. I fought in the Senate for a better national defense and missile spending, I fought for familiy values as Vice-President, and conservatives will have a friend and ally with me in the White House. But, so will moderates, independents and minorities. It's about time we prove to America that the Republican Party is inclusve, compassive and willing to work with people. We will fight for our social beliefs, our economic beliefs, our foreign policy beliefs, and all the beliefs we have held as a party. On November, please go to the polls, and prove Tom Daschle that he can't take America (and much less the South) for granted!"

September 22nd:
-California:
 -Town Hall in Anaheim, CA.
 -Town Hall in Bakersfield, CA.
 -Rally in San Francisco, CA.
 -Rally in Fresno, CA.
 -Rally in Long Beach, CA.
-Rally and Barnstorm in Los Angeles, CA.

September 23rd:
-California:
-Town Hall in Santa Ana, CA.
 -Town Hall in Oakland, CA.
 -Rally in San Jose, CA.
 -Rally in Sacramento, CA.
 -Rally in North Coast, CA.
-Rally and Barnstorm in San Diego, CA.

Let's make history, California! Let us break twelve years of Democrac hegemony and show America that this campaign has appeal everywhere! If I managed to break my sterotypes, then everybody can, and the polls show it. A coaltion of people moved by the desire of a stronger and more capable America, an America truly aware of the 21st Century. Tom Daschle wants us to go forward with the Clinton Era, but why should this nation go with stagnation for the sake of nostalgia? General Powell and I are looking towards the future, and our polices are designed to keep the good things while adding better ones. This is our time, California!"

September 24th:
-Nevada:
-Bus Tour in North Las Vegas, NV.
 -Bus Tour in Reno, NV.
-Bus Tour in Lake Tahoe, NV.
 -Bus Tour in Henderson, NV.
 -Bus Tour in Paradise, NV.
 -Rally in Las Vegas, NV.

September 25th:
-Oregon:
 -Town Hall in Eugene, OR.
 -Town Hall in Gresham, OR.
 -Town Hall in Hillsboro, OR.
 -Town Hall in Beaverton, OR.
 -Rally in Salem, OR.
 -Rally in Portland, OR.

"Glad to be in the middle of Oregon, nobody can seriously complain about the weather and the beauty of the zone. I have been slipping in the polls here thanks to the environmental comments, but I come here to stand by them. Economic growth is vital to our nation, and while it has never been my intention to harm the environment in any way, we must not act with haste. And you can trust us to hold Amerca's best intentions while in the White House. Wasn't a Republican President, Richard Nixon, the one who created the EPA? Conservatism calls for conserving and preserving our environment as well, don't forget that."

September 26th:
-Minnesota:
 -Rally in Rochester, MN.
 -Barnstorm in Minneapolis, MN.
 -Rally in Bloomington, MN.
 -Barnstorm in St. Paul, MN.
 -Rally in Plymouth, MN.
 -Barnstorm in Duluth, MN.

September 27th:
-Wisconsin:
 -Bus Tour in Kenosha, WI.
 -Bus Tour in Madison, WI.
 -Bus Tour in Green Bay
 -Bus Tour in Appelton
 -Bus Tour in Racine
 -Rally in Milwaukee, WI.

"And yes, we will achieve Educational reform! We will make our schools more efficient, we will reduce the burden of parents, and we will make your very own lives in school much easier and much more technological! The Democratic Party wishes to focus on teachers, and I respect that, but I feel the focus should be in you, the young people. Most of you won't vote in November, some of you won't even vote in four more years, but these reforms will make a difference. We can make a difference in America, and you can be a part of it as well. Now, I'm not suggesting blackmailing your parents... (Laughs) But discussing politics with them doesn't hurt, right?"

September 28th:
-Michigan:
 -Town Hall in Warren, MI.
-Town Hall in Sterling Heights, MI.
 -Rally in Ann Harbor, MI.
 -Rally in Grand Rapids, MI.
 -Rally in Flint, MI.
-Rally and Barnstorm in Detroit, MI.

So now NYE doesn't want to play anymore. We have two options here:

1) Next update will be election night or
2) Someone replaces NYE as Daschle and Lincoln.

It's not that I don't Want to play... It's that there's an active movement trying to drive me out of the forum, and I don't think there's any way to save myself.... Otherwise I would keep going.

I think that you should keep playing (and I sincerely hope you stay). The rest may complain, but I don't think you have done anything wrong in the forum.

OOC: The Senate numbers look great, the GOP candidates are three to four points stronger than OTL, which suggests that my lead actually brings coattails at the Congressional level. If this margins holds up and the debates go for Quayle and Powell, we could get a GOP administration with a Senate majority.

Oh, also, college has been very demanding, so my schedule will be up tomorrow!

GOP candidates are stronger in certain areas of the US because of your campaign, that for sure. But there are other areas where Daschle is polling better than Gore was in real life. I'll be releasing the 2nd part of Senate polls later today, BTW.

About 2004... I'm not sure. What I really wanted was to re-start the 2008 game (the one Bloomberg-Tmth won) but maybe going to 2004 with 11-S and maybe not going to Irak may be more interesting... I'll think about it once the 2000 election is called for one of you Tongue

And remember you can still join the game as surrogates Senate or Governor candidates!

Well, Daschle and Quayle would have the benefit of hindsight, and I imagine a Daschle cabinet would never go to Iraq. It gets tricky with Quayle, but since I have no intention of nominating Cheney and Wolfowitz for anything if I win (I'm unsure about Rumsfeld), 2004 should be a very different and amusing election if played.

Dan Quayle's Schedule:
(September 29th - October 5th) Sad

"There's a month left until the election, and there's so much to do! During this campaign we have discussed defense, foreign policy, governing style, immigration, health care, education and a lot of different issues, but not even all these months of campaign are enough to send the message across America. Some say I'm over confident, but that and the current polls are an actual test of how great we are doing right now. A year ago having those numbers would have been strange, and now see support everywhere, even in reliably Democratic states! Senator Lincoln may very well keep bringing up potatoe until the race is over, but Americans are tired of that, and I think I have spoken enough about that small issue. I'm glad to see Senator Lincoln managed to over major gaffees last week, but to draw attention to potatoe again just shows that, in the end, the Quayle/Powell ticket is the ticket more prepared for the White House."

September 2th:
-Arkansas:
-Town Hall in Fort Smith, AR.
-Town Hall in Fayeteville, AR.
-Town Hall in Springdale, AR.
-Town Hall in Jonesboro, AR.
-Rally in Conway, AR.
-Barnstorm in Little Rock, AR.

"You know, sometimes I wonder if Blanche Lincoln is actually a Senator from the South. Perhaps you might think a Mid-Westerner like I should not get involved in these issues, but I happen to be a conservative man, just like Arkansas. And you can see Daschle and Lincoln right now, in Michigan, openly saying they support abortion and same-sex marriage, and I feel Arkansas as a state doesn't really share those beliefs. Beyond the issue of Democrats v. Republicans, or regardless of my personal views, states should probably vote for the candidate whose views are closer to the state. I don't want to brag, but despite being from Indiana, I do feel close to the South."

September 30th:
-Missouri:
 -Bus Tour in Springfield, MO.
 -Bus Tour in Independence, MO.
 -Bus Tour in Columbia, MO.
-Bus Tour in Lee's Summit, MO.
-Bus Tour in St. Joseph, MO.
 -Rally in Kansas City, MO.

"It seems some voters are a little bit concerned about our immigration proposals, thinking that they are not conservative, that they will lead to less jobs. But I think this actually a conservative proposal, and the numbers show that it will lead to more and better jobs. Ronald Reagan himself chose to take a very similar road in immigration and acknowledge the importance of immigration in our economy, and he was definetly a proven conservative. America was built by immigrants, and I can bet that an overwhelming majority of the people in this audience are descended from immigrants. I understand your concerns, and I'm sure that most Americans a few decades ago they were concerned just as you are, but it is time for us to move ahead and acknowedge that this is necessary for our economy."

October 1st:
-Tennessee:
 -Rally in Memphis, TN.
 -Bus Tour in Franklin, TN.
 -Rally in Knoxville, TN.
 -Bus Tour in Jackson, TN.
 -Rally in Chattanooga, TN.
 -Bus Tour in Clarksville, TN.

"I love the Nixon reference Vice-President Gore made, I really do. They can call it bitter partisanship if they want, but we can't afford a leader who is willing to lie to Congress and the American People. I think Senator Lincoln was eloquent enough with her philanderer comment, so I will only allude to perjury. Perjury, ladies and gentlement, is a serious crime, and as President I pledge to have a transparent and dignified administration. America needs to project a strong image to the world, and the President is the key. This President has suffered impeachment votes, he has inflicted severe damage in our special reationship with the United Kingdom and he botched several foreign policy operations. And Senator Daschle praises that record! Both Senators are good people and they mean well, but their lack of foreign policy experience is worrying."

October 2nd:
-Minnesota:
 -Bus Tour in Plymouth, MN.
 -Bus Tour in Eagan, MN.
 -Bus Tour in Bloomington, MN.
 -Bus Tour in Rochester, MN.
 -Bus Tour in Duluth, MN.
 -Rally in Minneapolis, MN.

"We're almost there, Minnesota! This is the only state that Former Vice President Mondale won in 84', and this is a state in which the Democratic Party is very strong. And yet, we are four points behind! Can you believe it? I can, for I know Minnesota is a state that is willing to take risks and to accept bold ideas a good leadership, and I know that we can carry this state in November. We don't need an inactive foreign policy, and we certainly can't solve our nation's woes with bike lines! Let us really go into 21st Century territory, Minnesota, let us finally see a truly new America, with modern and more efficient Health Care, reasonable immigration policies, a balanced budget and a strong and dignified foreign policy!"

October 3rd:
-Michigan:
-Bus Tour in Grand Rapids, MI.
 -Bus Tour in Warren, MI.
-Bus Tour in Sterling Heights, MI.
 -Bus Tour in Lansing, MI.
 -Bus Tour in Flint, MI.
 -Rally in Detroit, MI.

"Hello, how are you? I am visiting this state and talking to people like you because I'm actually interested in the progress Michigan has made. After all, you have been with an amazing man as Governor, and Governors like John Engler are the model to achieve some of the things we want for this nation. Michigan is a state that thrives thanks to good local goverance, and I'd say it's time to bring that leadership into Washington DC. I want all of Detroit and all of Michigan to hear it, Colin Powell and I are going to Washington to fix our nation's problems. and nothing is going to stop us on this race!"

October 4th:
-California:
 -Rally in Fresno, CA.
 -Bus Tour in Sacramento, CA.
 -Rally in Long Beach, CA.
 -Bus Tour in Oakland, CA.
 -Rally in Santa Ana, CA.
 -Bus Tour in Anaheim, CA.

"Yes, Vice-President Gore! Ronald Reagan was a hero of mine! He was a good Governor, and a good President, and California remembers him and George Bush very well. This is a state that has much more liberal and minority voters than a few years ago, but it's swinging Republican, and Tom Daschle is now fighting for his life here! This is a sign that Americans are finally tired of eight years of a Democratic administration, a sign that now it's the time to move forward. We can win in California, and prove once and for all that not states can be taken for granted in this race, not anymore!"

October 5th:
-Ohio:
-Town Hall in Canton, OH.
-Town Hall in Parma, OH.
-Town Hall in Akron, OH.
-Town Hall in Toledo, OH.
-Rally in Columbus, OH.
-Barnstorm in Cinncinatti, OH.

Dan Quayle's Schedule:
(October 6th - October 12th) Sad

"Well, Larry, I'd like to think the numbers are moving in the right direction. Daschle is having his recovery, and I'm glad for him, but there is a truly powerful argument that has to undermine his efforts sooner or later, and I hope to talk about this in the debate. You see, he is a very creative man in regards to his Presidential campaign, but the arguments, the force behind it? That's not working. Bike lanes, the philanderer comment, the war on coal, the attacks on my intelligence... Every single poll shows Tom Daschle on the wrong side of that issue, and I can't see that as a winning slogan. Can you imagine the Daschle ads? Hi, I'm Tom Daschle, and I'm right only 10% of the time! Please forgive me for being rude, but that's not what you want in a President."

October 6th:
-South Dakota:
-Town Hall in Mitchell, SD.
-Town Hall in Pierre, SD.
-Rally in Rapid City, SD.
-Barnstorm in Sioux Falls, SD.
-Voter Registration Drive in Aberdeen, SD.
-Voter Registration Drive in Watertown, SD.

"Well hello, South Dakota! Seems this state is the next battleground of the century, an I sincerely have to thank Senator Daschle for providing such an exciting challenge. South Dakota is not a state you call Republican or Democrat, Red or Blue, this is a state that has a defined set of values, beliefs and life styles. Beyond party labels, the people of this great state understand hard work, effort, values and the ability to turn words into actions. South Dakota wants to have a leader who can give the example and be that man who works hard and tries to be honest, and that's what my campaign is all about. Sure, I could talk about how my views are closer to this state than Daschle's views, but that's actually not the main issue here. We need a President who can lead with integrity, and you can look at my record for that."

October 7th:
-Florida:
-Voter Registration Drive in Miami, FL.
-Voter Registration Drive in Tampa, FL.
-Rally in St. Petersburg, FL.
-Rally in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
-Rally in Orlando, FL.
-Visit to Eglin Air Force Base, FL.

"One of the things I'm proud of is my record in foreign policy. Always fought to keep America stronger in the Senate, and I was known as a missile expert back then. You can never be sure, but perhaps I spoke to some of you who served in Desert Storm in Iraq, as I traveled across that country in the middle and the aftermath of the war. War is costly, nobody can't state the opposite. We lost very few Americans, but those were precious lives, and we shouldn't forget about them. I want our country to handle itself with efficiency, with dignity, with respect for those who fought for our nation, and I don't wish to see ever again a White House that is unable to react to foreign policy issues. And you can trust me to be the man to represent us in the world stage."

October 8th:
-New Jersey:
-Barnstorm in Paterson, NJ.
-Barnstorm in Elizabeth, NJ.
-Barnstorm in Edison, NJ.
-Rally in Trenton, NJ.
-Voter Registration Drive in Newark, NJ.
-Voter Registration Drive in Jersey City, NJ.

"You know, I really enjoy to see the opposite party so focused on closing the gap and win this election, but sometimes I would like to see an specific message beyond Dan Quayle is dumb, vote for Daschle. Or Clinton is a philandered, so vote for his friend. That gets a little bit old sometimes... And yes, sometimes you might get tired as well of my talking points, but I believe they are truly relevant here. We need to discuss the tax reform this nation needs, the benefits of a balance budget, the need to help our families, and the desire this nation has for a little bit more honesty in politics. Seriously, sometimes I get the urge to release my tax returns and ask Senator Daschle to do the same... Hmmmm... I might do that after the debate."

October 9th:
-Nevada:
-Voter Registration Drive in Henderson, NV.
-Voter Registration Drive in Paradise, NV.
-Voter Registration Drive in Reno, NV.
-Barnstorm in Las Vegas, NV.
-Rally in Las Vegas, NV.
-Debate Preparation in Phoenix, AZ. (With Bill First, Donald Rumsfeld and James Baker)

"No worries, I'm ready to go for the kill. Lloyd Bentsen may have very well bested me, but I survived several GOP Primary debates as the winner, so this is the key night. If I can really prove the strenght behind this effort, and all of what I have invested into it emotionally, I believe we can get a pretty good result. So, who's going to play Daschle here? Frist? Good, very good. Did you manage to get a couple of moderators? Rumsfeld and Baker? Excellent! Can you imagine Baker as an actual debate moderator? He could crush any candidate with a single phrase..."

October 10th:
-Oregon:
-Voter Registration Drive in Eugene, OR.
-Voter Registration Drive in Gresham, OR.
-Voter Registration Drive in Hillsboro, OR.
-Voter Registration Drive in Bend, OR.
-Rally in Salem, OR.
-Barnstorm in Portland, OR.

"Internet is the face of tomorrow, I believe. Vice-President Gore spoke a lot about that back in the late eighties, and I have to admit I didn't really believed in his words. But time has made me wiser, and the Internet will prove to be the most decisive tool in the next decade and perhaps the next century. It is a tool for freedom and innovation in America, it creates jobs, and we have to protect it. As President I wish to be a friend of technology, creation and innovation in America, so we can retain our lead in regards to the rest of the world. You can read more about this on my website, and I want to encourage you to go there and take a look. It is the tool of the future, ladies and gentlemen, mark my words."

October 11th:
-California:
-Voter Registration Drive in Fresno, CA.
-Voter Registration Drive in Sacramento, CA.
-Voter Registration Drive in Oakland, CA.
-Voter Registration Drive in Long Beach, CA.
-Barnstorm in Orange County, CA.
-Barnstorm in Los Angeles, CA.

"No, I understand what you're saying. Regulations are not really helping the middle class to enjoy a booming economy, and if we prove to be irresponsible we may very well lose a lot of progress. You see, as a fellow businessman I understand the concerns of the economy in a way that other politicians can't. You have to be there and do it yourself to really understand it, and I think I'm actually qualified to run the economy of this nation. Experience does matter, and having a man who has run a company is better than a man who hasn't, don't you think so? Anyway, please feel free to discuss it with your friends, the economy is very interesting to set up a debate."

October 12th:
-Maine:
-Town Hall in Lewiston, ME.
-Town Hall in Auburn, ME.
-Town Hall in Bangor, ME.
-Town Hall in Biddeford, ME.
-Town Hall in Saco, ME.
-Barnstorm and Rally in Portland, ME.

"Surprised to see me, Maine? Well, I believe in the importance of independent states and in campaiging everywhere, and what better place than Maine? So goes Maine, so goes the nation, and I am confident this state will remain a bellwhether for a very long time. The way I see it, Maine is a quiet state, a state that wishes to live a peaceful live, specially in regards to the families. I come to you with a plan that tries to help those families to move forward, by giving them tax breaks, certain preferences, a loss of regulations. It's about time we acknowledge that all families are good for America, and it's also time to reward them for all the good they do for our society. Willing to back me on this issue, Maine?"

Quayle 2000: (Update)

Dan Quayle had a rough beginning...

With the race moving forward and about to enter the debates, the Quayle campaign is becoming more and more optimistic, even with the sudden Daschle rise in the polls. As the organization grows larger and larger, more and more groups are going in full force to get Dan Quayle in the White House, and the grassroots enthusiasm is still there. Pro-life activists, conservative activists, young independents and republicans, hispanic voters, conservative democrats, all of them part of the coalition the Quayle team wishes to see turning to the polls next month. That, along with the growing sucess of the Quayle website and Karl Rove's tireless efforts makes Republican confident that, in the end, good organization will defeat the brave efforts of Daschle and Lincoln.

But things are getting better and better!

Thus, the Quayle Team expects that winning the debates will built a wave of momentum strong enough not only to secure victory, but to ensure a true landslide for the Former Vice-President. Tom Daschle has become a better debater since October, but his performaces against Jesse Jackson and John Kerry left a lot to be desired, which creates a contrast with Quayle's streak of victories in the GOP debates. And if the debates are not enough, the Republican Governors of the nation are ready to go with the planned strategy and barnstorm their respectie states in search for new voters and the energizing of the base. Some insider sources expressed their concern for the immigration plan, but it seems it's benefits will outweight potential losses, given that conservative voters are not likely to go for Daschle and there's not third party candidate.

Dan Quayle TV Ad: Hard Work:

States: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Missouri, Iowa, Ohio and Pennsylvania:

(We see a Quayle 2000 Campaign Office, full of volunteers working and manning the phones. Eventually it gets dark and the volunteers leave for home, but there are lights turned on in a corner of the room. The camera zooms by and there's Dan Quayle, still talking to people  in the phone)

Voiceover: Dan Quayle knows the importance of hard work, and he does his best effort everyday, even if some are not pleased with it. He has a commitment to America, and he will never cease working for you, not even in the worst moments.

Quayle: Oh, yeah? Well, I certainly can relate to that... Very well then, take care, good night! (Looks at the camera) It's not easy to travel across the nation and talk to so many people, but this country is worth the effort. As President, I plan to give my 100% to the American people, and you can take me by my word.

Voiceover: When the time comes, vote Dan Quayle for President.

Debate Responses: Dan Quayle:

Well, Jim, I'm glad to be here, time has taught me that debates are the best chance you get to cause a positive impression, and you have my personal promise that I won't blow this one up. (Laughs) And of course, I thank PBS for hosting this debate and Senator Daschle for being such a fantastic and courageous adversary.

1.   Look, Jim, I want to be as honest as I can with you tonight. I am a deeply pro-life man, and that's a belief I held since the very beginning of my political life. I understand people who are pro-choice, my own running mate is, but this is an issue in which I could not possibly accept such a drug. I have to agree with Senator Daschle here on medical risks, this procedure is painful and risky, and we cannot allow such a drug to circulate freely. But what's beyond this is what happens when the pill does not bring so many risks. I'm sure Senator Daschle would then approve of it, but I have to admit I wouldn't. I personally find life too sacred and too important to risk it in that way, and I ask for forgiveness if that may offend some, but I won't stay silent in that issue.

2.   You might not recall the article since it was quite a while ago, but back in May 1999 I wrote that Slobodan Milosevic was fundamentally an evil man, a thug, if you will. His conduct has been terrible, but the way our current administration has handled Kosovo has been frankly disappointing and lacking efficiency. I am more of an interventionist, and I believe in using our power when is necessary. But we should never forget about the price of that, and how fundamental is to have cooperation to achieve our goals. We went there and we bombed Yugoslavia without actually thinking what was happening, and if this trend goes forward, we'll end up in a bigger quagmire and we will have American troops dying over there. I find it refreshing to see Senator Daschle opposing the Clinton approach, but in this case we should keep applying pressure, and not just to Milosevic. Russia has the power to convince him, and most involve Russia in this process and not just expect "people in right places" to coup Milosevic and open Pandora's box.

3.   Certainly, Jim, my time in the White House provided me with an excellent look at how the Presidency really works, and I had the chance to step in a couple of times to test my ability. The most eloquent example comes ten years ago, in 1989. President Bush was on his way to Malta when I was notified about a military coup attempt in the Philippines, that sought to remove President Aquino from office. I went to the National Security Council and I coordinated the response for quite a few hours, talking to President Aquino, ordering the embassy troops to take defensive positions and setting up a very strong response with my running mate, General Powell. I won't claim to have "saved the day", but President Aquino was able to defeat the coup with our assistance, and I think I proved that I have the ability to step in the middle of a crisis and take command of the situation. I appreciate it when Senator Daschle comes to defend her running mate with such loyalty, but the President will have to deal with crisis that go beyond public opinion and party loyalty. There will be lives at stake.

4.   Senator Daschle, I don't mean to be rude, but have you ever heard of the Asian crisis? I agree with you in the need for cooperation with the international community and foreign leaders when it comes to economic matters, governments alone can make the difference. If we take a more serious approach to handle the economy, if we acknowledge the need for fiscal responsibility and a balanced budget, and if we actually take care of the middle class, we will get an America capable of resisting financial crises. Government should try not to intervene much in good times, but in bad times it's up to us to go there and help Americans who are struggling. What I'm saying here is that we can avoid such developments if we handle the economy in a more responsible way. I'd like to believe our banks are too big to fail, but you never know.

Well, first of all, thank you Jim for moderating this debate, and thanks to Senator Daschle for participating. What I really liked about this debate is that you can clearly see a contrast between two clear options, and that's despite a few common ideas we might have. I ultimately believe that efficiency and responsibility are values that can do a lot for us, they can make the difference in all stages. We need a moral leader for foreign policy, and responsible one for the economy, a compassionate one for immigration and domestic policy, and so forth. What a Quayle administration aims for is to bring integrity and efficiency to we can share as a nation the new millennium that has come upon us, and I insist: it can be done. Many voters are a little bid undecided at this point, but I want to encourage you to look at the chances, and vote for the man that you believe can be a better President. I would be honored to have your support. Thank you very much.

OOC: Is the bombing of the USS Cole going to happen on October 12 as in OTL?

Vice-President Quayle interviewed by the press after celebrating first debate win:

"Well, I certainly feel rather pleased with the results of the debate. In the end, I won this one by a much bigger margin than the GOP Primary ones, and I had to contend with the fact that we had more Independents and Democrats combined than Republicans watching this debate. We are obviously trying not to get overconfident here, but we just had a small celebration to take some of the stress off. You know, Marilyn, Baker, Beckwith, McSlarrow, Doyle and the rest of the main campaign team. There are still two more debates to go, but I have been training hard for them and I think that it wouldn't be impossible to win all three if I give my best effort, don't you think so?

I am also 100% confident of General Powell's debating skills, and I'm sure he will win the Vice-Presidential debate as well. I can't tell if this will have a visible effect on the polls, but I might feel confident enough to say that Quaylementum is back! Now I plan to resume my usual campaign activities, but again, I am rather pleased with the results, just like all my campaign team. Naturally, I look forward to debate Senator Daschle again, and I hope that Americans will take the chance to tune in and see for themselves the choices they have for President of the United States. It's never an easy choice, I know, but every vote counts and I want to see people really involved in this election. I have to go now, thank you."

Dan Quayle's Schedule:
(October 13th - October 19th) Sad

"I'm fighting because I care, and because I am some sort of a believer. I believe in America, I believe in the Republican Party and I believe in myself, and that's why you have seen me confident throughout this race. Sure, I acknowledge it, sometimes I am a little bit arrogant and I sincerely apologize to the voters if they get that idea. But I also believe in being ambitious, in looking forward to a future that we all have to seize. A new and bright America will not come if e only wish for it, we have to go and make it different. People have to vote, they have to voice their opinion and talk about the country they want to see. I'd like to think that this election has managed to craft said debate beyond the personalities of the candidates, and if you look at my campaign, it's not just empty promises of having the best government ever, we have plans, specific goals, and a lot of enthusiasm!"

October 13th:
-New Jersey:
-Bus Tour and Rally in Paterson, NJ.
-Bus Tour and Rally in Elizabeth, NJ.
-Bus Tour and Rally in Edison, NJ.
-Bus Tour and Rally in Trenton.
-Voter Registration Efforts in Newark, NJ.
-Voter Registration Efforts in Jersey City, NJ.

"Glad to be back in New Jersey! Some of you may have been surprised when I came here last week, but honestly don't believe in writing states off. And the polls seem to agree with me, don't you think? New Jersey is now 100% toss up, and you will see Dan Quayle's best efforts to win this state in the three weeks of campaign we have left! New Jersey is a state that fundamentally understands the importance of a responsible and focused economy, and that's why I think you will be interested in my economic proposals, specially my middle class tax cut, which is believe is the key to an easier life for all families across the United State. Now, talking about families..."

October 14th:
-Pennsylvania:
-Rally in Erie, PA.
-Rally in Scranton, PA.
-Rally in Levittown, PA.
-Rally in Lancaster, PA.
-Rally in Harrisburg, PA.
-Campaign City Tour of Philadelphia, PA.

"You might find this a little bit strange, but is there a chance I could convince all of you to watch the Vice-Presidential debate this week? We are going to see two great individuals, General Powell and Senator Lincoln, debating about some pretty crucial issues, and I think that will have many people to make up their minds. I had the pleasure to debate General Powell back in the primaries, and he is not to be underestimated, so I think we will do a more than fantastic job! Now, Edward, you were asking me about educational policy? Yes? Well, you see, I am of the opinion that having more freedom in Education does not lead to Educational anarchy, so as long as we make sure that we have good standards and that we are taking care of, let's say, college students, we'll do just fine."

October 15th:
-Ohio:
-Barnstorm in Akron, OH.
-Barnstorm in Cleveland, OH.
-Barnstorm in Dayton, OH.
-Barnstorm in Parma, OH.
-Barnstorm in Canton, OH.
-Barnstorm and Rally in Columbus, OH.

"A ten point lead! Can you believe it? I would have get laughed at in August if I had suggested that number. Some may like to point out that since my campaign has been gaffee-free thus far and with the Daschle campaign still making the same mistakes the lead shouldn't be surprising, but I disagree. The past years have seen some pretty ugly partisan fights, and many people complained about our nation and how polarized it was. And yet, we are now leading a campaign that might be the first one to actually win more than 50% of the popular vote since 1988, when I was elected Vice-President. I think having an actual majority of Americans supporting you is the best sign of the people's real trust on a candidate, and I'd like to think Americans are finally trusting me as someone who could be a good President."

October 16th:
-Michigan:
-Voter Registration Efforts and Rally in Detroit, MI.
-Bus Tour and Rally in Lansing, MI.
-Bus Tour and Rally in Ann Harbor, MI.
-Bus Tour and Rally in Warren, MI.
-Bus Tour and Rally in Grand Rapids, MI.
-Interviews with Local Media (Radio).

"Democrats enjoy calling me a reactionary, but there are some issues in which our government has simply not been effective. I was reading about crime levels in America a few days ago, and I was shocked at the levels here in Detroit. It means that people have to live their lives while in permanent fear of crime, and that proves to be really devastating to our quality of life. And yet I keep hearing people who wish to lower sentences and such. No, ladies and gentlemen, I prefer being tough on crime, specially on gun crimes. As President I will openly call for One-Strike laws for gun crimes, and that includes juveniles. People have lived in fear for far too much time for us to neglect that."

October 17th:
-Minnesota:
-Town Hall in St. Cloud, MN.
-Town Hall in Eagan, MN.
-Barnstorm in Rochester, MN.
-Barnstorm in Duluth, MN.
-Rally in St. Paul, MN.
-Rally in Minneapolis, MN.

"Has anybody seen Blanche Lincoln? I never saw her in the campaign trail once last week, and that worries me. I get that she prefers to have debate practice, and I understand that, but still, she should have come to at least one or two states past week. Senator Daschle and I campaigned and had debate prep at the Senate time, so where's the problem? (Pause) Well, I may be getting a little bit paranoid, forgive me. Now, I wanted to speak to you about trade and China. We have seen the dramatic rise of China as an economic power in the past few years, and they are becoming a rival. Not only they seem to manipulate their currency, they are facing some pretty serious domestic issues that we must not overlook. I'm not advocating going extreme with them, but we have to start responding to their moves."

October 18th:
-Wisconsin:
-Bus Tour in Madison, WI.
-Bus Tour in Green Bay, WI.
-Bus Tour in Kenosha, WI.
-Bus Tour in Racine, WI.
-Bus Tour in Appleton, WI.
-Barnstorm and Rally in Milwaukee, WI, then meeting with party leaders and volunteers.

"Good morning, everyone. Today I wanted to discuss with you a subject that has not been really discussed lately, that of government reform. It's easy to dismiss the conservative argument as government has to be smaller, period. But it's not about that, it's about making our government less bloated and more efficient. How? Well, there are many ways to accomplish that, and I want to start by reducing our Cabinet. If we were to combine a couple of Departments not only we would get less bureaucracy, we would ensure efficiency. We should also try to get more neutral judges, for we often see the ghost of partisanship in the middle of purely legal disputes with people going after a political agenda, and that does not belong in our judiciary system. We could also go with term limits, or we could cut congressional benefits after 12 or 16 years."

October 19th:
-California:
-Voter Registration Efforts in Fresno, CA.
-Voter Registration Efforts in Sacramento, CA.
-Voter Registration Efforts in San Francisco, CA.
-Voter Registration Efforts in Oakland, CA.
-Voter Registration Efforts in San Jose, CA.
-Voter Registration Efforts in Long Beach, CA.

"I can sense the momentum growing, California! I don't care if the pundits criticize my focus in California, this election is about breaking the old and tired concepts that help nobody. During the past few weeks we have seen states like Arkansas, Tennessee, West Virginia and Missouri abandon Daschle completely, and I think California will go for us in Election Day. It's probably going to be close, but I don't see a rule that says that California can't vote Republican, as Michael Dukakis will happily tell you. (Laughs) Come on, California, come with me and help me break another ceiling in politics!"

Quayle 2000: (Update)

With a debate win and a commanding lead in the polls, Vice-President Quayle is on a roll, but his campaign team refuses to play safe until the end.

"He did it, Jim, he's got him against the ropes!"

Those words are attributed to John Sununu (after the first presidential debate) by some staffers, and they go a long way to show how committed the Quayle Team is to the cause. They never have the chance to be in the same place at the same hour, but after working for so many months to get Dan Quayle in the White House they have proved to be a mostly effective team, specially in light of the resounding sucess of the "Hard Work" Ad and the good organization of the campaign. Praise goes to various individuals, Doyle, McSlarrow and Sununu for their organizational skills and Baker and Marliyn Quayle for actually commanding the ship. Despite some occasional fights over the leadership, Quayle can be more than satisfied with him team, but now it's time to put it to the test. With three weeks left until the election, Quayle seems to believe it's time to get serious and redouble his efforts to win, which is why his campaign has chosen to revive some issues from the past. From his handling of the Philippines attempted coup to his extensive travels across the world, and from his steady beliefs to his loyal performance as VP, "Quayleworld" hopes to show Quayle as a man who got destroyed by the press without deserving such treatment, hoping not only to show a story of "redemption" but to prove he was right all time along. And the best way of doing that, they believe, is by taking a gamble by going and going after an old enemy: Murhpy Brown.

Attacks on Murphy Brown brought Quayle a lot of criticism in 1992, but eight years after that, it seems the Vice-President may have actually been right.

Vice-President Quayle was interviewed today by CNN and he spoke about his plans for that old issue, along with some ideas for a potential cabinet should he win the election. Here's an extract of the interview:

Interviewer: So, Mr. Vice-President, it's been a pretty good week for you.
Quayle: Oh, certainly. The feedback has been very positive, and save from the arrogance comments, I seem to be doing great.
InterviewerSad I've been hearing "Murphy Brown" mentioned a lot by some campaign team members, but always out of context. Would you care to explain?
Quayle: Sure. I think I got a far too negative response back in 1992, so a strong response now with a different context might help to change that negative perception. We plan to run an ad on that, and I want to touch the subject in my campaign stops.
Interviewer: Will all due respect, Mr. Vice-President, it was strange to see an officeholder going after a TV show.
QuayleSad Many think that way, but TV shows are more important in America that what some people think. I would guess 90% of Americans have done at least one thing they saw on TV, and in this case, we were seeing the glorification of a model that is not the best one available. I never said single moms couldn't raise a child, but we have to acknowledge that kids with two parents often get a more stable home and they tend to have better results, and those are numbers, not just arguments.
Interviewer: Don't you think this could be a potential gaffe?
Quayle: No, not really, America is ready to have this talk, and I hope Americans will side with me on this one.

Marilyn Quayle in the campaign trail, will she prove helpful?

And Murphy Brown, while by far the most visible movement of the campaign this week, is not the only one. Hoping to change a few dynamics of the race, Marilyn Quayle has been a rather outspoken surrogate for Quayle this week, taking a tour of Minnesota, Michigan, Iowa and Wisconsin in order to talk to middle class families that might feel attracted to Bill Clinton (and by extension to Daschle). The "Hard Work" ad is also running in more states this week, trying to gain an advantage thanks to favorable reviews. Thus the ad will now run in Illinois, California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Arkansas, West Virginia, New Hampshire, Maine and New Jersey. And, last but not least, a couple more ads will also be released, relating to foreign affairs and tax reform.

Dan Quayle TV Ad: Taxes and the Economy:

States: Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Florida, California, Connecticut and Minnesota:

(We see graphics showing the rise of the economy. Eventually, most of them go down and the red lines, which represent taxes, go up and up. Then we see clips of common americans looking depressed or confused.)

Voiceover: Good economic times come and go, but our policies and our approach towards the economy always stays. More now than ever, we need a capable and effective President to handle our surplus, help our families, and guarantee prosperity in America.

(We see Dan Quayle giving a speech.)

Quayle: America will soon face a good number of crucial choices for the future of our economy, and itps up to us to ensure we will be able to enjoy economic growth for a long time. We need a balanced budget, we need to cut taxes for the middle class, and we need to get rid of the regulations that are strangling businesses in this country. That's what I want to do for you as President.

Voiceover: On November, vote for sound economic policies, vote for Dan Quayle.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________

Dan Quayle TV Ad: American Leadership:

States: New Hampshire, Florida, Ohio, Nevada, Oregon, South Dakota, Arkansas and Tennessee:

(We see pictures of the War in Bosnia, Operation Desert Storm, and some of the attacks on Americans embassies by terrorist groups.)

Voiceover: History did not end after the Cold War, and the world of the 21st Century will have to face many complicated issues in order to finally unleash it's potential. To achieve that, America and the Free World will need a man ready to lead, a man who can be a moral leader.

(We see pictures and clips of Dan Quayle talking to many foreign and american leaders, like Corazon Aquino, George Bush and so forth.)

Voiceover: As Vice-President, Dan Quayle met with almost fifty world leaders, often talking at lenght about the need for a stronger leadershp in world affairs. He was often told that America was capable of being that leader, and now he is ready to take on the challenge and lead us in the world stage with dignity and efficiency. In three more weeks, vote for a strong America, vote for Dan Quayle.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________

Dan Quayle TV Ad: Murphy Brown:

States: Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida:

(We see Dan Quayle's Murphy Brown speech.)

Quayle: Bearing babies irresponsibly is simply wrong, failing to support children one has fathered is wrong. We must be unequivocal about this. It doesn’t help matters when prime-time TV has Murphy Brown, a character who supposedly epitomizes today’s intelligent, highly paid professional woman, mocking the importance of fathers by bearing a child alone and calling it just another lifestyle choice.

(We see clips of the reaction to the speech.)

Voiceover: Remember this? Eight years ago Dan Quayle was attacked and critized by many people after that speech, but a few years are enough to give this a new perspective. Research shows that more and more children are born outside marriage, and it also shows that, somehow, those who live with their biological parents do better in school and achieve higher levels of education and earn more as adults.

Quayle: It's not easy to raise a child alone, and I truly respect single parents. I never said that families don't come in all shapes and sizes, but I said that children raised by married, responsible parents do better than those who aren't, and I stand by my words.  I believe it's time for us to recognize that families are a very positive force in America, and our government should help them by lowering restrictions, lowering taxes, with educational reform and better health care.

Voiceover: On November, vote for families, vote for Dan Quayle.

Debate Responses: Dan Quayle:

Good to see you again, Jim, and good to see Senator Daschle as well. This is our final debate, so I believe tonight will prove to be a rather important night. I'd like to believe this is a night in which we can mark the contrast between both candidacies, and show the American people the options they will have in November.

Quote

1.   "Well, Jim, I believe this is an issue that will prove crucial to determine the actual leadership of the next President. I think most of us, if not all of us, can agree that we can't allow the rights of the patients to be ignored for the sake of insurance companies. I believe both Democrats and Republicans agree on this one, and they are currently discussing a potential solution in Washington. The problem is that we have our differences in regards to how to deal with the problem. My party proposed a comprehensive reform for health care, including a bill of rights for the patients, health savings plans so you can choose your own doctor, and a system in which you have a specific road to be heard in case of trouble. We have to make health care more efficient and less expensive, and this plan, which I fully endorse, will protect patients' rights, expand consumer choice and access to affordable health care, and it will improve health care quality and outcomes. Of course, when this plan was introduced, Senator Daschle himself blasted it and called it the worst possible solution. And you see, that's a mindset America doesn't need. We need efficient health care, not a bloated system that can't pay for itself and costs the taxpayers more and more."

2.   "The answer to this one is rather simple, I think. It's about experience. I believe I can do the best job here because I am a foreign policy expert, I fought in the Senate as a foreign policy expert, and I served as a Vice-President in charge of several issues related to this. I've been there, I have met the leaders and worked on this, and General Powell has the same amount of experience. Without disrespect, Senator Daschle, you have no foreign policy experience, and neither does Blanche Lincoln. Eight years of Bill Clinton proved that to elect a President without experience foreign affairs does not lead to good results, and we need a truly coherent policy for the Middle East. Senator Daschle can presume of knowing the names of many leaders, as he proved to us in last debate, but beyond that, where is the experience and the accomplishments in that area? That is something that takes time, persistence, and a lot of hard work, and America can trust me when I say that I will fight for you and our common values in the world stage."

Quote

3.   "First of all, I agree with them. I am a parent, and I know firsthand the problem that comes with the lack of morality in some parts of the media. Government has to understand the concerns of the parents, and it has to stand with the parents, as I have been advocating since my very first week on the trail. And yes, government can do something about it, and it will do something about it in a Quayle administration. With educational reform you can get schools to teach better values to our children, with proper funding you can get afterschool programs, you can work with the networks to install family hour, and so forth. I am not the biggest fan of censorship, because this is a free nation, but when you are trying to teach a child right from wrong, it doesn't help when you see such violence promoted in the media. We need some filters here, and I am sure my opponent believes the same. This is what I call a truly bipartisan issue."

Quote

4.   "You know, Jim, this is probably the hardest issue for me to handle, because I don't want the people to get the wrong idea. Back in 1992 I was truly for the death penalty, and I often spoke for it on the campaign trail. These years outside of government gave me time to think, to reflect, to try and see how deep my beliefs were. Liberals often use the argument that being pro-life and pro-death penalty is inconsistent, and the more I thought about it, the more sense that made to be. Pope John Paul II was a great help to me with this, when he made a strong case against capital punishment, and there's also the argument that the government can make mistakes with this. If we conservatives don't trust the government with guns, why should we trust them with the life of a person? I believe death penalty should be reserved only for the most heinous crimes, in the rest of the cases, I admit that I am against it."

"Well, it is time for the closing statement. For the past few months, America has seen the fight of two men who wish to serve America as President, of two men who have very different views in the America we both love. Senator Daschle has opted for a view that is far more liberal, and some times we have seen him advocating for policies like a war on coal and bike lines when it is obvious that America has more urgent needs. And I think my posture is clear enough. I am a conservative, with a common sense platform that wishes to address the issues directly and help America. Good immigration reform, better health care, protecting families and the middle class, a balanced budget, coherence in foreign policy, dignity in the White House, and so forth. I don't wish to be perceived as arrogant, but I invite each one of you to think carefully, to look at both candidates and their performance, and ask yourselves: Which America do I want? Which candidate can help me create that America? In which of these two men I would place such trust? It's not an easy question, my fellow Americans, but I hope this debate has helped you to make your choice. Thank you very much."

Dan Quayle's Schedule:
(October 20th - October 28th) Sad

"Less than three weeks left, America! This has been a tough race, a long race, but our efforts have been rewarded with the lead we currently have. This is our chance to return values to the White House, and prove that the Republican Party is very much alive and stronger than ever! And I want to thank each one of those who have helped this effort from the very beginning, the volunteers, the staffers, my campaign team, the surrogates, and specially General Powell, who has truly been a brilliant running mate. Now it's time for the final steps, now is when we try to go and get out the vote, and I am sure that we will all do our best efforts to secure victory. Here we go, America! To the campaign trail once more!"

October 20th:
-California:
-Voter Registration Efforts in Fresno, CA.
-Voter Registration Efforts in Sacramento, CA.
-Voter Registration Efforts in San Jose, CA.
-Voter Registration Efforts in San Francisco.
-Rally in Los Angeles, CA.

"The media reports that America is more polarized than ever. And yet, here I stand, tied with Senator Daschle in a state that has almost become a stronghold for the Democrats. Ladies and gentlemen, this is our chance to prove that America is not as polarized as people think it is, our chance to show that Democrats, Republicans and Independents can join a cause together. Perhaps it might not be landslide, but I am confident that California will vote for our campaign and our message in November, and we will be able to prove that indeed, America is not as polarized as people think, and that yes, we can build a common message for a strong and solid majority."

October 21st:
-Oregon:
-Voter Registration Efforts in Salem, OR.
-Voter Registration Efforts in Eugene, OR.
-Voter Registration Efforts in Gresham, OR.
-Voter Registration Efforts in Hillsboro, OR.
-Rally in Portland, OR.

"I feel Oregon is a crucial state to the American economy because it focuses on technology. And you see across the state many important companies, many links to places like Silicon Valley, and then it becomes evident that the next President of the United States will have to give a greater focus to technology, just as Vice-President Gore did when he advocated for the Internet. Now, I know, just having an active website does not prove much, but I remain committed to help America to adapt to the 21st Century, and in doing so we will create jobs and we will secure the prosperity of states like Oregon. The environmental positions of Senator Daschle are appealing to most of you, I know, but we must also be aware of the cost, of the alternatives, of the consequences those positions might have, like the impact it would cause on places like West Virginia."

October 22nd:
-Arkansas:
-Voter Registration Efforts in Fort Smith, AR.
-Voter Registration Efforts in Fayetteville, AR.
-Voter Registration Efforts in Springdale, AR.
-Voter Registration Efforts in Jonesboro, AR.
-Rally in Little Rock, AR.

"And the fight for our values goes on, Arkansas! There are politicians out there who have a tendency to consider that religion has absolutely no place in government. And while I agree with many of those arguments, I will be honest with you: I don't really like this whole notion all state and no church. Religion has a part to play, and it a be a powerful and positive force that advocates for good values and beliefs. My opponent is a religious man, just as I am, and yet I never hear him talking about religion. Not even once, not even about values beyond the Lincoln comment on our President being a philandered. Don't you think this is an issue that we should speak about, specially in a state as faithful to religion as Arkansas is?"

October 23rd:

"Well, I think this push for voter registration is really going to make a difference. There are many voters across America that have never voted, that find themselves excluded in some way, or that simply believe that the candidates do not represent them. You have minorities, independents, liberals, conservatives, and so forth. And I want to encourage them to show up, to vote, to increase the turnout and let this election reflect the true will of the American people. There is no point in getting elected by a small minority if the rest don't vote, and think many of these new voters will feel interested in what I have to say."

October 24th:
-Wisconsin:
-Voter Registration Efforts in Madison, WI.
-Voter Registration Efforts in Green Bay, WI.
-Voter Registration Efforts in Kenosha, WI.
-Voter Registration Efforts in Racine, WI.
-Rally in Milwaukee, WI.

"Gun control is an issue that some find to be divisive in America, and while I understand there are many different points of view on this, I'll have to say I don't really believe in gun control. I believe in self control, I believe that is the true key to end the problems we have seen with the misuse of weapons. We can debate all day long about new regulations, but first we actually have to enfore the ones we already have so we can actually prevent those people not prepared to own a gun to actually own it. Responsible gun owners shouldn't be punished or be a subject to so many regulations, we should punish those who are irresponsible. "

October 25th:
-Michigan:
-Voter Registration Efforts in Warren, MI.
-Voter Registration Efforts in Grand Rapids, MI.
-Voter Registration Efforts in Lansing, MI.
-Voter Registration Efforts in Ann Harbor, MI.
-Rally in Detroit, MI.

"I stand with the veterans and the military, with people like this young man, for they have been neglected in this administration. Bill Clinton has not handled defense or national security very well, and that is something that has to change now. What do I propose? I want to see more focus on high-tech like SDI and spying, more spending on advanced weapons, to actually coordinate intelligence agencies to fight terrorism, and overall, to increase defense spending to meet our global responsibilities. I have been advocating for all of this since the 1980's, and it's time to finally put this into practice."

October 26th:
-Pennsylvania:
-Voter Registration Efforts in Erie, PA.
-Voter Registration Efforts in Pittsburgh, PA.
-Voter Registration Efforts in Scranton, PA.
-Voter Registration Efforts in Allentown, PA.
-Rally in Philadelphia, PA.

"Pennsylvania is a state that cares a great deal about Health Care and Social Security, and I am sure most of you have followed with great interest the discussion Senator Daschle and I have held over those topics. I feel that the Democrats this time have no actual plans for these issues beyond putting more regulations and blaming me and the Republicans for supposedly wanting to kill Social Security and Health Care in this nation. At least we have a plan, and our plan will make it more affordable, more efficient, and the system will actually pay for itself, instead of this deficit mess we have right now."

October 27th:
-Maine:
-Town Hall in Portland, ME.
-Town Hall in Bangor, ME.
-Town Hall in Biddeford, ME.
-Town Hall in Auburn, ME.
-Rally in Augusta, ME.

"Glad to be in Maine, this state has given me a truly positive surprise and a truly positive response as well. One of the things I dislike about campaigning in big states is that you never have enough time to spend it with the voters, and while I still don't have all the time in world here, it is easier to connect and address the voter directly. I'd like to believe this vision I have for America is a vision that I can share and discuss with you. It's not an old and tired slogan, I truly and deeply believe that a smaller government, bigger defense and stronger families are the keys for a successful America in the 21st Century."

"Oh, I think this has been a fantastic week, specially with the debate win. I haven't seen Senator Daschle's speeches or activities this week, but I am a little bit puzzled about Blanche Lincoln. Look, I don't want to look as if I was taking any chance to attack her and/or question her judgement, but am I the only one who is really concerned about what she's doing on the trail? I mean, taking a week off, travelling to Europe, running a marathon, participating in a protest in a zoo, saying that if we cut military funding we can fund Senator Daschle's bike lanes dream, and my favourite: searching for meteorites in Kansas a week before the election. Doesn't she think that there might be more important or relevant things to do? Week after week after week, the Daschle campaign has managed to alienate entire states like West Virginia, they killed their chances with independent voters, lost all debates, called the President a philanderer and then tried to run with his legacy while saying they wouldn't, staged a rally with Monica Lewinsky, used bike lanes as the focus point of their campaign, they almost replaced the VP candidate and... and now it's meteorites. Am I really the only one concerned about this?"

In the end, Daschle played the defeatist and has not improved a little bit. All Heil to our new Fuhrer Dan Quayle!
