Of course Palin will run! It's her best shot to stay in the limelight She will NOT leave the GOP, but she needs to run against Begich, and beat him, to stay relevant.
Alaska is NOT a hard-right GOP state like, say, Idaho. It's trending Democratic, although it's not yet a swing state. The feud between Murkowski and Palin is deep and personal, but Lisa Murkowski is one of the more moderate and reasonable Republicans in the Senate, and has received a burst of respect post-2010, after beginning her career as a questionable legacy. Palin ended Murkowski's father's career as Governor (the father who appointed Lisa Senator), then quit in mid-term. Meanwhile, the GOP has a shot at taking back the Senate in 2014, and knocking off Begich would be HUGE toward that end.
I predict that, in the end, the national GOP will get behind Palin in a way where she and Murkowski make nice to ensure Palin's election. Murkowski is a real leader in the Senate GOP; she is NOT seen as an Independent as is, say Angus King or Bernie Sanders. Murkowski is an establishment Republican, and she's not going to put herself in a position of being blamed for GOP Senate failure in 2014. You can bet that the big GULP you're about to hear is Lisa Murkowski swallowing a huge portion of moose manure for the sake of electing a GOP Senator from Alaska. Even a GOP Senator she will always despise.
