Anyone else surprised Chris Murphy's filibuster was successful?

He held up the bill to protest, to say that Congress should be allowed to vote on some gun violence measures.

Republicans have conceded, and will now hold the votes.

I'm genuinely surprised. Chris Murphy did it.

If the bill passes, then I'd say he was successful.  If not, then it's just posturing for elections on both sides.
I think the vote itself will be a success. Then we can see where everyone falls, and campaign accordingly.
