Not surprising something like this would boil over in North Carolina

There are many such monuments in most of the southern states, not just in Virginia.
I can see this continuing to happen, quite often actually, in the next few months.
The recent tragic events due to white nationalists, the KKK and Nazis are probably going to accelerate their removal.
And as you can see here, the People are not waiting for their local governments to do the job; the People of this nation are not afraid to step-up and do it themselves.
I'm happy to say that the vile Nazis, and their new Fuhrer trump, are big losers here.

It is really remarkable that Americans are now further from achieving Lincoln's dream of national unity than they were in 1890; there are people in this thread right now who feel more animosity towards the Confederacy than did many of the men who actually fought against it.

That most of you seem to view the civil war as 'WWII on American soil' is an indictment of the American educational system.

And exactly why should we not feel animosity towards people who were fighting to protect slavery?

Everyone practiced slavery at that time including blacks in Africa who sold their siblings as animals, The left is pathetic.

Actually, the US was one of the last countries to abolish slavery and it needed a war to do it. It was the last functioning democracy to do so. Only Spain, Portugal, Brazil and a handful of semi autonomous Arab states had not abolished slavery by the time of the civil war.

If only some of these Deplorables would have taken their studies seriously in high school world history, they would have known such basic facts.

In Spain the monuments to Franco still are conserved and only the communists bet to remove them, State referendum in each state on the monuments, The violent left and antifa would refuse to know that the result would not favor them?

This is literally false:

- All statues of Franco in the city of Santander were removed by 2008
- Ceuta's "Franco's feet" were removed in 2010
- Busts and statues in Madrid, Zaragoza, and Valencia were removed
- Large statues in Ferrol and Valencia were moved into museums

Is absolute national unity a worthwhile goal if it means that people will have another Civil War?

Republicans failed back in the day, should have fully subjugated the south and purged this evil from coming back, instead we just had to let it fester for over 100 years as people worship traitors and slavery.

Yeah, I have direct family like this too. This is why I'm astonished that anyone thinks this is the beginning of the end for him. He might have solidified the >55% of people who hate him though.

I think it's safe to say that the number is now >60% "of people who hate him."
