Stupid CBO and their independent and highly educated analysis. What do they know.

I remember forum Republicans calling the stimulus a dismal failure a whole month after it was passed.

But somebody somewhere typed in the wrong number for a Congressional district. This invalidates EVERYTHING about the stimulus.

Not surprising. Of course does this mean it was spent in the most efficient manner possible? Not sure about that. I wish even more had gone into road construction and maintenance projects (although a lot did but we didn't need those tax cuts).

To be fair, it was a lot more than just one Congressional district.

That's a good sign, but I think that at least half should have been out this year.

@ red avatars: most of the rational criticism of the stimulus (mostly from non-Republicans, unfortunately) had more to do with Democrats sneaking in pet projects and advancing their agenda in a bill where it was not appropriate. Plus, Biden is overseeing, so all bets are off Tongue

Exactly- the biggest problem is not that it doesn't create jobs but that it was haphazardly designed. Of course, Keynes thought that even paying people to dig up money buried in the ground was better than nothing.

But from a purely political standpoint, the stimulus should have included at least one mega project (like a Pickens style massive wind farm) that would make Americans go "oooh" and "aahhh" to better help sell the program.

I thought this was urgent, something that needed to be passed and enacted RIGHT AWAY.  What slowed things down?

Hm, I wonder how much each of those jobs cost...

How about $248,000

This is at least the second time this has had to be spelled out for you:

The stimulus was not all about jobs. It had to do with strengthening the safety net, giving financial aid to state governments, cutting taxes, and much more. If this was a pure government jobs program, the cost of the money spent to jobs created ratio would be much, much smaller.

The topic is about jobs.  If the topic creator wanted this to be about strengthening the safety net, I wouldn't have said anything.

That's not much.  But you are correct, it is always better for the government to directly hire people (so called 'private' employment is inferior).

Show this report to the still unemployed.

I find it funny that they claim that any jobs were created by these funds, despite the fact that most of the money was not even spent through a bill that no one even read. There is no organization I trust, and there are very good reasons to be skeptical of all organizations.

The strangest part is the range they give.

That doesn't change the fact that you don't seem to know what you're talking about.
