I'm still here, friends.

I haven't posted much in the past few weeks mainly because I'm investigating this thing called LIFE.  This early shift, 5:30 am-2:30 pm is still one I'm trying, though finally starting, to get used to.  I hope to pick up my posting regiment again in the months leading up to Iowa and the 2012 nomination season.

I have no intentions on permanently leaving the forum, as I think this is a great place to learn not only about politics, but also acceptance of other people's cultures and religions (or lack thereof), and lifestyles.

This forum is largely credited with the moderation of my political and cultural views.  If it weren't for the forum, I'd still probably be a staunch conservative, and closed minded to other points of view.  While I am still conservative to some degree, I am not near as right-wing as I used to be, and I have even been a registered Democrat for the past 5 years, as of September 19.  I'm also aiming toward my 3rd presidential election to vote for the Democratic ticket.  2012 will be my 4th to vote in, and I have only voted Republican once in 2000.  Since then, I've voted Democrat.

Anyhow, I'm veering off topic, but suffice it to say, that while my posting has been somewhat limited for most of July outside of the flurry of posts for the first week or so of the month, I am still very much on this forum and check it every day and try to make at least one or two posts daily, if not more, depending on the current discussions taking place.

Can you tell us some other things that have happened? Perhaps to ally our fears you can use this thread to keep us updated on your condition?

Sure did! I had my vote locked in around Christmas 2003 and I was starting to shift that direction the summer before when I heard Governor Howard Dean speak at a rally in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  I voted for the then-Junior Senator from Massachusetts because I thought we needed a fresh face to handle Iraq and to focus our efforts on Afghanistan.  While I supported entering Iraq, and still do, I was frustrated that he went in without a plan to win the peace and was so totally unprepared for quick victory that it made things worse and set us up for the next 6 years after the 2004 Election.  I seriously believe we could have been out of Iraq by the Summer 2004, worst case scenario, had Bush and Dumsfeld actually been prepared for the quick topple of Saddam's regime.

Ok BushOklahoma.

If some of the older Atlas veterans will remember, even though I voted for Kerry in 2004, I was pretty much all for President Bush and was almost head over heels for his administration in 2005 and early 2006, THEN things changed and I became a Democrat on September 19, 2006.

Unfortunately I witnessed all that. It doesn't make it any less ridiculous.

Suffice it to say I was still trying to discover myself politically.

Can you imagine BushOK during the Nixon era? I started to when that "what if the atlas existed back then" thread or whatever opened: "...And then I voted for McGovern over Nixon, who, by the way, I fully supported and was in fact head-over-heels into his administration until it ended abruptly in 1974." or something like that.
