Why would they give to Romney and Obama?
Wow I guess nobody on here actually understands what this means. A company can only donate the same maximum as everybody else. These are aggregate numbers for all of the people that work at Goldman Sachs. Most commonly they pass through by bundling(google it) where one person at a particular company like GS has the job of essentially selling all of his co-workers on donating to a particular candidate. That man then ends up being a conduit between the sympathetic donating co-workers and the campaign. If they raise a lot they get some cool perks like special meet and greets with the candidate, maybe a low level white house appointment, or maybe even an ambassadorship.
Also sometimes the company can decide to give to a particular candidate and ask its executive team to bundle the money together from each person and donate it.
