Wow.  Hypocrisy at its best.

I'm not seeing the hypocrisy here. It might be one thing if she said she was against legal citizenship for people born to illegal immigrants but as it stands, but she hasn't to my knowledge. Also the whole ANTI IMMIGRANT smear routinely thrown out against people specifically opposing illegal immigration is getting pretty lame.

If it were her grandparents advocating against illegal immigration, it'd be hypocrisy. It's not her fault her parents came her illegally.

She's anti-DREAM act, which is kind of hypocritical, since she got plenty of opportunities that many in her party think should not have been afforded to someone whose family did not come here legally. What's good for her isn't good for others, apparently.

Technically this makes her an "anchor baby".

It will be interesting to see how this plays out in her immigration positions and the Republican veepstakes.  However:

- Martinez herself was born in the US, making her a citizen.  In fact, both her parents were born in the US, making them citizens.  The idea that it's hypocritical for her to oppose amnesty or the DREAM Act is a bit odd, seeing as her grandparents came to the US in the 1920s at the latest.

- Now, there are some Republicans (Ron Paul) who oppose automatic birthright citizenship, so it's possible that they wouldn't consider you a citizen unless both your parents were citizens, and they wouldn't consider your father a citizen unless both his parents were citizens...

Technically this makes her father an "anchor baby".

Fixed, though I don't think anchor-less parents were getting deported back then.

It's not big deal IMHO. From what I've read, politician's in both parties have had ancestor's come here illegally. Case in point Obama's Uncle is in the country illegally and was also recently arrested for drunk driving.

That's true but even proponents of those sort of changes aren't arguing they should be retroactive.

Personally, I don't believe anybody is a US citizen unless their ancestors came over on the Mayflower.

Sounds good to me.  I'd lose my voting rights, but so would most teaflowers who immigrated to the Southwest US for a tan and shocked to find it inhabited with browns.

I don't think the modern definition of illegal immigration existed before 1924, so 1920s at the earliest, not latest, no? Maybe I should just read the article?
Ah bah, no.
