Good Afternoon,

I have called you here today at the request of the honored guest at this press conference.  Our guest is a former Chairman of the AFDNC, before joining the UAC.  He is one of the most personally admired members of the forum and I am pleased to announce that he will be joining the Union Party family tonight.

Oh honored guest.... *stares at the door*

[…after a few nervous moments looking at the door, the handle turns and Ben enters the room, clutching a bundle of papers]

Good afternoon folks and my thanks for that intro Don.

I have fond memories of working with Don and many other members of the Union Party both back in the UAC and before that during my time in the Democratic Party. What has always impressed me about many of the folks who have formed the Union Party has been their unyielding desire to put the good of the people before partisan or ideological concerns, naturally our values inform our polices but polices must be based on practicality rather than ideological purity. And it’s this approach of practicality over partisanship that really finds a home in the Union Party and that’s why I’ve had the great good fortune to be welcomed into the Party by Don here, who’s contribution to the “radical centre” of Atlantian politics is without par.

I have however made mistakes in my political career my term as treasury sectary was disastrous, though it was entirely my fault [pulls an expression that makes some of the assembled press corps give serious though to making Ben their children’s legal guardian] and as a result for some critical weeks the treasury department was near motionless. But in joining the Union Party I want to once again play a full and active part in Atlantian politics as I once did, I will not be announcing any plans to run for office today but I shall be playing a full part in the political life of our nation and I am eager for the challenges that await.

I do not join the Union Party for selfish reasons instead the development of Atlantia’s political parties and the demise of the UAC had left me without a political home and so I have chose to join the Union Party as the party best disposed to good old fashioned practicality over bickering and backbiting. My recent campaigning for my good friend Senator Al has give me a great deal of time to clarify what problems face this nation and also a great deal of time to see the truly great and stoic people of this our homeland and I want to be able to serve them by being a part of a vibrant and well argued debate over how to tackle those problems facing this country and it is as a member of the Union Party that I feel I will be best able to do this.

Thank you all very much you have been very patient indeed guys.

Well, I can't say I'm surprised.

The AFDNC is probably a bit liberal for you at this point, although you'd have the stature to change it's course.

Good luck Ben, I'm a little disappointed at seeing you go to the CUP - but only a little. I wish you the best of luck there and look forward to seeing you in an elected position soon. Join MAMA! Wink
