Romney is starting to present his severe contrast to Obama now that the general election campaign is officially underway. Here are some excerpts from recent comments made by the Governor:
Romney on his goal to bring us together again:
“We don’t divide America based upon success and wealth and other dimensions of that nature,” he said. “We’re one nation under God. This is a time when people of different backgrounds and different experiences need to come together.”
Politicians on the Right would like us to believe that we must all unite in the shared objective of enriching and pampering the economic elites even if such implies extreme disparities of indulgence and deprivation, richly-rewarded ease and meagerly-rewarded toil... America has become a nastier place for most to the extent that it has more become a pure plutocracy.
See above. The secret to success is no longer hard work but instead being born into the Right Family, being able to schmooze with powerful people, or consummate ruthlessness. Such is economic decadence. Low taxes largely aid vertically-integrated companies with market power over customers and suppliers to squeeze out competition and squeeze profit margins of suppliers.
Lower taxes mean little to the working poor; economic security and higher pay that Corporate America has made either unavailable or impossible would do far more to aid the working poor.
Consolidating departments means nothing unless there is a huge reduction in government services, and even that may have vile consequences. The Ryan plan is basically "Get old, and when you run out of money you die". The medical insurance business was delighted to give up the high-cost Crisis Care for the elderly, and it would take it on if it could cut off the spending where it saw fit. In view of the only standard of corporate ethics now in existence (profit maximization irrespective of human consequences)
Charles Dickens could describe that well in his inimical style if he were around.
