This is completely wrong, Clarence. The Obama campaign's position is that military service members *should* be allowed to vote early, in person, but so should everyone else. At issue is a Republican law that restricts early voting in Ohio, disenfranchising everyone (including former veterans who are no longer active duty).

Even Ohio's Republican Secretary of State agrees with Obama's position that supports having uniform voting rules for all Ohio voters. "“We don’t have any discretion in the matter,” he said. Husted added that he supports having uniform voting rules for all Ohio voters."

Why should veterans be more allowed to vote then poor blacks and Hispanics? Would a poor, black veteran balance that out?

It's pretty obviously Republicans who are doing the voter suppression. Here in California, the Democrats passed a same day registration bill.

Yeah.

Clarence, I'm disappointed you've fallen for the spin.

The actual disenfranchisement is the tens of millions of people blocked by requiring self-voter registration as opposed to automatic voter registration and the 5.8 million felons who cannot participate even if registered: http://www.sentencingproject.org/template/page.cfm?id=133

I don't think it's passed the State Senate yet: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/california-politics/2012/07/activists-push-bill-to-allow-same-day-voter-registration-in-california.html

I might add that there is a federal law accommodating the voting of the military overseas, such that their ballots will be counted if received within I believe 10 days after the election. To me that is the real issue of concern, protecting the overseas military franchise, and Obama is not challenging that law.  I do agree that the Ohio law appears to be arbitrary. Whether it is un-Constituional as lacking a rational basis is another matter. That is a tough standard to meet - no rational basis - very tough.

I wonder what could be the motivation for this Republican vote suppression patriotic vote fraud-reduction law?
