This was obvious to anyone paying attention. Why would anyone expect this guy and Amy Koch to care about the "sanctity of marriage"?

Repubs use things like gays just like Dems use the war on women/minorities/abortion. Everyone knows Republicans won't overturn Roe or do away with Medicare just like everyone knows the Democrats won't enact socialist policies or force churches to do things they don't want. It's American politics at its finest!

What's sort of funny is that I don't see how this amendment will impact any other statewide or local races.  Klobuchar's safe, there's not a chance in hell save for a landslide (if even that) that MN will turn red this year.  What are they really aiming to take?  A few House seats, some legislative districts?

This tactic worked in 2004, certainly, but I'm pretty sure at this point - especially in a state like Minnesota - that ballot questions like this motivate turnout among liberals just as much as conservatives.

Well yes, but here the liberals are concentrated in unwinnable for the Republicans no matter what seats.

The most fantastic thing is that this might've backfired. Despite what I said to BK above, there's also signs it hurt the GOP in inner/middle ring suburbs, and might've actually killed the Voter ID amendment, which the GOP was banking on for future electoral assistance.

Do Minnesota Democrats feel frustrated now that Bachmann has closely survived yet another attempt to unseat her?

Not really as no one was really expecting her to go down. We defeated both amendments, Cravaack and retook the legislature. That's basically the only thing to be disappointed about.
