Yeah, but vague, unsubstantiated rumors came out when Clinton had already been serving for years as a popular Governor. Also, Arkansas was safe D back then on a statewide level. McDaniel has neither advantage.

Standard, dull (and in this case, not comparatively "scandalous") affairs don't tend to have major effects on polling unless the candidate has previously publicly lied about it, and especially when they happen years before the election. Gingrich actually shot up in the polls when he was attacked on his affairs right before the SC primary because of his response to it in the debate. If McDaniel loses in 2014, it probably won't be due to this.
