Haven't seen a thread.   Rand Paul and Patrick Leahy have drafted a bill to eliminate minimum sentencing requirements.  Bobby Scott (D-VA) and Thomas Massie (R-KY) have sponsored it on the House side.

Pretty FF.  Of course, it probably won't pass the House, especially since Paul and Leahy are calling them Jim Crow laws that need to be repealed.

I guess Rand Paul is feeling really bad about the whole "I would repeal the Civil Rights Act of 1964" thing. Or at least he's canny enough to know that he'll be seen as exactly the same as his dad if he doesn't turbocharge the "likeable" parts of libertarianism; the stuff that the American public actually supports, like sentencing reform. Or, as I've heard occasionally, he is really peeved that he's seen as racist and doesn't see himself as racist, so he'll go on a personal crusade to prove that he isn't.

Good on him for doing something right though, no matter his motivation. A stopped clock and all that.

Or maybe Rand Paul actually wants to do some legislative accomplishments (including his bipartisan work with Kirsten Gillibrand).

Pfft, legislative accomplishments? Who does those anymore? That's so 2009. Wink
