Apparently, the affiliate the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria was disowned because they didn't listen to instructions to leave attacks in Syria to fellow affiliate, Nusra Front...

Al Qaeda's leader Ayman Al-Zawhari stated that they were "not responsible" for the ISIS's actions.

Does this infighting help the on-the ground situation in Iraq and Syria?

Of course it does; if the terrorists are disunited themselves, they're weaker.
