People seem to assume that there's direct correlation between holding a Presidential nominating convention in a state and improved election performance in that state.  Obviously, there's no guarantee that a candidate will win the state where they hold their convention.  But, many seem to take for granted that a political convention would appreciably move the needle for a candidate in a battleground state.

Is this actually true?  Does it really stand to reason?

Logically it would actually increase hostility towards the party in question, given that large political conferences are a logistical and security nightmare, plus all those drunken political activists running around the place and causing trouble.
