The ironic thing is all the outrage over him seemed to start after the election, which in itself vindicated his claims about the stupidity of the American voter.

IMO, he's a personification of the arrogance of the Northeastern elites.

The irony is that the people whom these videos hurt is not Gruber (besides his reputation) or people like him. It's the people he was denigrating as stupid- those lower income voters who for whatever reason need this bill to get health insurance, and won't if the SCOTUS strikes down subsidies or states refuse to expand Medicaid.

Agreed, though MIT is far, far less liberal than Harvard.  If I were to guess, Gruber is probably a centrist or even slightly conservative solely among MIT/Harvard economists.  Gruber's just an elitist, not a True Leftist.
