Interesting take, especially the idea Hillary won't run along with the idea a tea party senator wins the GOP nomination.

If Hillary doesn't run I expect Dems to open up behind in polls because it would take months to build up name recognition. That said, the Democratic candidate would build up their name and by early 2016 this wouldn't be a problem anymore. I think Dems still have a good shot based on demographics and the idea the economy is likely better if not fully recovered.

The GOP might get overconfident and try to nominate Paul or Walker rather than someone like Kasich who is more electable. Dems would be smart to find a woman candidate even if Hillary declines to run. Warren, Klobuchar come to mind.

The # of books she sells is irrelevant to 2016. But there's no doubt the GOP would lead polls until a Democrat gained name rec. Once that happens, the voters will sort along familiar lines. A moderate center-right R will have a chance to win but a Paul, Cruz type will have trouble. The flat tax proposal those guys like will have a serious problem in November. Having a female Democratic nominee still is good for excitement and energy.

Of course Cook is full of plenty of BS too.

Nice to see that Cook continues to peddle his anti-ACA bullsh**t.
Of course most economists will be surprised to learn that health care isn't part of the economy.

If Hilary doesn't run, I will surely support Webb who clearly can win in a battleground state like VA. Too bad Schweizer's Senate flirtation derailed his prez ambitions because he would clearly have been the story, not Webb.

If the Dems don't have Hillary its very important to have someone progressive but also a happy warrior who is positive and uplifting. Let the GOP have all the doom and gloom.

Now the article has changed and says Hillary has a 25 to 30 percent chance of not running. Interesting....

Prior to the midterm congressional elections of 2006, wasn't Charlie Cook dismissive of the Democrats' chances at winning majority-control pickups of either house of Congress? (If I'm wrong, perhaps it was Stu Rothenberg.)

Not sure about the house, but everyone was pretty pessismistic about democratic chances of picking up the senate early on (and in the end, it probably only happened because of Allen's 'macaca' comment).
