Wow, that was the most simplistic statement I've heard today.  I must thank you, as without that prompting I'd be floundering for a comprehensive scientific argument, but as it stands her it goes:

There is no god; man fashioned god "in his own image" to explain that which was inexplicable by science.  As things are explained, the religious explanation is written off as having been figurative or a myth.  It is amazing how many people are content to think that the entire faith is valid even as it is chipped away gradually and continuously by human discovery.  We made up god to explain things simplistically without much though, a filler for the void left by a lack of good science.  As we get more good science the filler is chucked.  However, the filler has been present for so long (millenia upon millenia) that people have mostly forgotten the origins of the idea of a higher being and are content to think that there is a god.  The null hypothesis is that there is no god, I challenge you to provide any data disproving that null hypothesis.

Excellent post.

You wouldn't be of the major Centre-Left party in most European countries. But then the party system is different. There are Republicans further out on this forum IMHO. So yes, in the US you are a Democrat.
