From the
Rutland Herald:
Richard Tarrant, a millionaire Republican businessman who has never held elected office, is "fairly committed" to running for U.S. Senate.
In an impromptu gathering with the state's press corps outside the Statehouse cafeteria, Tarrant said he would make a formal announcement of his political plans in mid-summer.
"Right now I am putting together a plan," said Tarrant, founder of IDX Corp., a Burlington software company. "I am attacking this like a business plan. … I am doing the things you do in the business environment, crossing all the t's and dotting all the i's."
...
He also suggested that he would not rule out competing for the GOP nod in a primary, a contest that could include going head to head with Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie.
"I'm not a politician," Tarrant said, adding that he wasn't sure how a primary battle would affect his chances of beating Sanders.
Dubie, who handily won re-election in a three-way contest last fall, said moments after Douglas bowed out of the Senate race Saturday that he was interested in running for Senate or for Sanders' soon-to-be-vacant House seat.
...
There are already two other potential primary participants in the GOP fray. Greg Parke, a retired military pilot who lost to Sanders last year, is the only declared candidate, and Jack McMullen, who lost handily to Sen. Patrick Leahy, said recently that he was interested in running again.
