I disagree that he's the worst President, because the path to civil war was already paved by Pierce and there was no going back. Still, almost stunningly incompetent and ineffectual. One star because there's really nothing good about him.

The single worst President. Incompetent, wishy-washy, desperate to do anything to avoid the split of the Union, and the only President who literally sent the army to destroy a religious minority within US borders.

The weird thing is, I would consider him average and boring in his other jobs, but not bad as anything but a president. But his actions as president are incredibly bad. Also, he helped to draft the Ostend Manifesto.

This people.  The whitewashing of the Utah Wars is among the most impressive in US History.  Worth usually only a two minute mention in the textbooks and only mentioned as an aside in a presidency so horrible not even the feelgood idiots on textbook boards are willing to defend.

And, to make him even more horrible, he even encouraged some Know Nothing talking points from the Democratic campaign in 1856 against Republican John Fremont.  So yeah all around a horrible POS.  1 Star.

Terrible President, but I agree war was our destiny by that point but he did no sure help to anyone.

It's pathetic that he had so many accomplishments but yet he was so incompetent when it came to the main event. Rumor has it he was sent overseas for so long due to how hated he was due to his persona.

Then there's his personal life which is much discussion. I believe to be true but that is no detriment. In fact he's a barrier breaker even if he never intended to be. He had to be first but there were others who had to continue it.
