Trende said he was called as an expert witness to do a regression analysis on the impact of NC's voter ID law on minority voting rates (that's the demographics angle that earns this story a place on this Board methinks) as compared to other states. The opposing attorney bashed his credentials. The judge is going to let him testify, saying he was looking forward to what Trende has to say and the cross examination.
The story mentions same-day registration in California. California enacted same day registration in 2012. But its implemented is pending until California has a statewide registration data base (this is a federal requirement since the early 2000s - California is under an extension waiver).
The plaintiff attorney should have asked Trende if he was aware that California Secretary of States have been party hacks who have been term-limited out of the senate, and putting in time, until another position is available. He could then call Alex Padilla as a reputation witness.
