As you can see in the link below, Trump's lead now is twenty points under Romney's in 2012 and just five points above Romney's in 2008. In fact, in 2008, McCain made a huge comeback. He was about where Kasich is now.

That is an average of New Hampshire polls, not national ones. Poll wise nationally he's playing a similar role to Romney.

Plus you're lying about Kasich - he's not even close to where McCain was in 2008. McCain never sunk below 10.

-3 to Romney and -3 to McCain begs to differ. I meant Rubio, but now that I think about it, Rubio might represent Giuliani here.

McCain's was at 16, Kasich is at 8. Night and day.

Why must every 2016 candidate have a 2012 or 2008 analogy?

Looks to me like Romney's lead was not in fact 20 points or even 10 wider than Trump's.

In fairness, should not one who believes Christie at 6 has enormous (no pun intended) potential to rise be more measured when criticizing Kasich's ability to do the same. Granted I concur with this judgement, but that is more a subjective critique of the two governors' campaigning styles than a cold look at the poll numbers.
