Chomsky is a hack, but he's not nearly as insufferably edgy as Zizek.

I think Zizek is funny sometimes and has far more interesting and original points of view than Chomsky, although admittedly he can be insufferably épatant .

Zizek sometimes blatantly trolls just to get a rise out of people, but is still extremely intelligent and one of the few people where whenever I see he's stated an opinion on an issue I'm always interested to find out what it is, because you never really know with him.

I don't always disagree with Chomsky, but despite his heavy academic language creating a veneer of rationality, he clearly has an emotional hatred of the United States that makes him unreliable in any discussions of it. He'll criticize perceived human rights abuses by the United States, but then defend the far worse actions of other governments simply because they're anti-American. He wrote an entire book defending the Khmer Rouge in the 70's (perpetrators of the worst post-Holocaust genocide in the world) and continuing to insist that only "a few thousand" people died despite the fact that the remains of 1.3 million people have been found in mass graves at confirmed labor camp sites, making that the bare minimum (demographic analysis says that there were 3.5 million "surplus deaths" during the era). It's pretty much on the level of Holocaust denial in terms of refusing to acknowledge reality for political reasons. He did finally refer to it as a "genocide" sometime in the 90's, but didn't specifically admit he'd been wrong. This is the kind of thing Chomsky always does when discussing "human rights". If America does it, it's evil, if another country does it (specifically a leftist country or one that's an enemy of America) then no big deal.
