You can expect these SuperPACs to try to do the same with the right-wing populists and white nationalists who now back Donald Trump:

How We Killed the Tea Party:
Greedy super PACs drained the movement with endless pleas for money to support “conservative” candidates—while instead using the money to enrich themselves. I should know. I worked for one of them.

I just read this earlier. Great stuff. Good to see how John Roberts & friends unleashed a scourge of million dollar scams on agitated conservative voters (and some liberals at that)

That's kind of reassuring, in a twisted way. Enriching single individuals is a less objectionable use of money than "supporting conservative causes".

I read something recently about the RNC email hack where when they sent out mass emails asking for money to "stop the out-of-control Democrats in Congress" they got a bunch of sarcastic response emails saying things to the effect of, "Republicans already have a majority in the House and the Senate. The Speaker is a Republican. Stop asking for more money and actually do something for a change."

The "manufactured crisis as a fundraising tool" tactic was perfected into its current form by post-2010 Republicans.

There's something disturbing about the fact that if I wanted to, I could set up a website with a bunch of pictures of bald eagles and Ronald Reagan, pay a few thousand dollars for a Republican mailing list, and spam people every day for $5 donations to "STOP BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA" / "DEFEAT THE ABORTION LOBBY" / "STOP THE OUT-OF-CONTROL EPA" and it would be an incredibly good investment.
