What did Bill and Hillary Clinton do so wrong to be so scrutinized?

Since 1992 to now, both Bill and Hillary Clinton have been scrutinized for their struggles and mistakes, especially the 1998-99 Lewinsky affair and the 1999 Kosovo War, Hillarycare, etc. Obviously, the media has a job to report on the presidential first couple's actions, since the voters of the U.S. elected Bill in 1992 and 1996. However, from 1992 to today, and recently with Hillary Clinton's email baggage in the 2016 presidential election, why have they been so scrutinized in the media? Did they really do wrong in the eyes of the American people?

Try to imagine Hillary actually won this election for a moment, now imagine in 2020, some generic, inoffensive right-winger beat her, dethroning the Obama Empire.

Now imagine at the same time, that right-winger had a wife [or husband if we assume the GOP decides to nominate a woman in a cynical ploy] who challenged the norms severely.

This is precisely what the Clintons did. No one would've cared jack-crap if Bush Sr won '92. But they caused his loss and dared challenge the Reaganomic ways, so from that point on, it was on. Any little thing was fodder at this point, because St. Ronnie's ways were tarnished!

One theory I've heard is that the root of all this is Hillary's paranoia about money stemming from Bill getting defeated for reelection as governor in 1980. This happened shortly after they had Chelsea, and the combination of that and Bill becoming unemployed led to her being preoccupied with ensuring their family would be able to provide for their daughter and not be poor. This is part of the reason she got involved in the cattle futures scheme and the Whitewater real estate deal - these were all attempts to make a lot of money for the family.

I think constantly seeking and or holding power over the last 25 years caused many people to grow disillusioned or spiteful of the Clinton's. I also think the disingenuous transformation from Arkansas populists to technocratic third-wayers and eventually to far-left New York liberals cost them any natural base and most of Hillary's hardcore supporters by 2016 were a mix of democratic hacks and extreme feminists. Their legal and ethical issues only added to the perception that they were power hungry and willing to do anything to achieve that power. Hillary got lucky by running against the weakest possible republican but it wasn't enough, Kasich or Rubio would have flirted with 400 electoral votes

It's fun for people to focus on negative stuff and even to create it, but it's not fun to focus on all the good things Hillary and Bill have done throughout the years, I guess.

I like them because of all the good they have accomplished for society. Just like ALL of the rest of us, they have made mistakes, but their real perceived negatives come from people not understanding where they are coming from because they simply are ahead of the curve in so many ways.

Hillary is a female who has done some pioneering work for the females in society, and that is very commendable and forward moving, but she has caught hell for being different than the normal female, for embracing her personal power and intelligence and for trying to elevate her status in society.

Much of the emotions levied against the Clintons are because of jealousy, IMO. (And just plain ignorance.) They both are very smart, savvy, talented, public-service oriented, and they have worked their butts off to become wealthy. I don't begrudge them their wealth or their status.

I think society is a better place because of Hillary and Bill, and also the world. They have influenced us in so many good ways, and you can never take that good away no matter what aspects of their lives you choose to focus on.
